There’s still plenty of matchups to keep an eye on, especially in North Georgia, home to some of the top programs across the state. Here are three North Georgia games to know about this Friday…
Walton at Brookwood:
QB Dylan Longergan – Brookwood:
One of the top 2023 QBs in the country, Longergan has one of the strongest arms in the state and has already thrown for 516 yards this season and 5 touchdowns. He’s big, strong, accurate, and knows how to throw on the run as well. He’ll be a QB to keep an eye on the entire season.
TE Stone Bonner – Brookwood:
We knew Bonner was going to have a big season after the Broncos lost their two leading receivers from last year, and Bonner has proved us right through the first two weeks. The big senior pass-catcher has reeled in 10 passes so far this season for 187 yards and a touchdown. Look for him to get plenty of passes his way this weekend against a strong Walton defense.
RB Sutton Smith Sutton Smith 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Walton | 2022 State GA – Walton
The Raiders are 2-0 to start the season and a lot of that has been because of the play of Smith. One of the quickest and most versatile backs in the county, Smith has been very productive through the first two games and is currently committed to Memphis. Smith’s best game so far was in the season opener against Lowndes where he rushed for right at 100 yards and two touchdowns.
DB Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA – Walton
One of the top DBs across Georgia, Allen is a versatile DB who could line up at safety or cornerback this weekend. He’s long, twitchy, and has tremendous ball skills. He’s a reliable tackler, but his ability to cover the opponent’s top receiver is what makes him one of the best DBs in Georgia for the 2022 class.
Westlake at Creekside
ATH Roderick McCrary – Creekside
A Max Preps Freshman All-American First Team All-Region selection last year, McCrary is off to a great sophomore season and has made play after play so far this season. He’s a good athlete, has great instincts as a defender, and has the ball skills needed to make plays on offense as well. He’s a big-time player who could have a giant impact in this game.
DB Daiquan White Daiquan White 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Creekside | 2023 State GA – Creekside
One of the top young cover corners in the Atlanta area, White is a quick, instinctive defensive back who can play multiple positions in the secondary. He’ll be asked to do a lot against a tough, pass-happy Westlake offense this weekend.
QB RJ Johnson – Westlake
The big 6-foot-2 200-pound junior loves to sling it around the field, and he might be tested against the best secondary he’ll see all season. Johnson has led Westlake to two big wins so far this season over Archer and Colquitt County, so he’s certainly up for the task against another quality team in Creekside. Johnson has thrown for 345 yards and two touchdowns through the first two games of the season.
Grayson vs. Alpharetta
WR Matteo Carriere Matteo Carriere 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Alpharetta | 2022 State GA – Alpharetta
The biggest weapon on offense for Alpharetta, Carriere is an explosive playmaker with game-changing speed on the outside. He’s got great hands, can create separation, and knows how to find the end-zone. Look for him to get plenty of opportunities to make plays against a tough Rams defense that’s loaded with high-quality defensive backs. It’s going to be a tough task, but Carriere still has the ability to have a strong game this weekend.
OL Griffin Scroggs Griffin Scroggs 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Buford | 2022 State GA – Grayson
One of the top interior offensive line prospects in the state, Scroggs is a massive 6-foot-5 300-pounder who has no problem opening up holes in the trenches. He’s excellent in the run game due to his raw power and lower body strength. He plays with a strong base, has quick feet for his size, and can overpower smaller defensive linemen with ease. Look for the Rams to try and run behind Scroggs early and often on Friday night.
ATH Joeseph Stone – Grayson
One of the top 2024 prospects in the state, Stone is a tremendous athlete who could line up at DB, WR, RB, and even QB if they need him too. The 5-foot-11 180-pounder has good speed, ball skills, and playmaking ability. Arguably the best overall player on the team, his athleticism is easy to notice. He has 5-star potential in the 2024 class and will get every opportunity to make plays not only this weekend, but throughout the fall.
