Week 2 of 2021 is just about to kick off. Week one was full of excitement between many teams. Last week’s games were great, Pierce went to Saint paul where their QB Abram Scouting was 7 of 11 for 171 yards and three touchdowns. The Bluejays took the victory over the Wildcats 47-25. Our next game was Lincoln Southeast at North Omaha where the Knights pulled out with a 29-19 victory with RB Max Buttenback rushing 174 yards and 2 touchdowns for the win. Finally Millard South at Millard North where [player_tooltip player_id="164872" first="Christian" last="Nash"] and the Patriots destroyed the Mustangs 55-14. Week one was good but week two is when the season really gets going. The mistakes that happened in week one need to be gone and each week matters more and more. Here are a few games to take a look at.
Waverly V.S. Skutt
This week I think this will be a defining game in class B, Skutt is one of the best teams in Class B every year and they always have a chance to go all the way. Similarly, Waverly is looking to challenge the Skyhawk’s dominance. Last week Waverly snuck past the Elkhorn North winning by 6 points. The Vikings had 297 yards in total with 233 yards rushing and 64 yards passing. The Skyhawks are coming in hot winning 44-17 over Roncalli Catholic. The Skyhawks had 486 total yards 352 of those being rushing yards. Offensive Standouts - QB [player_tooltip player_id="147507" first="Caden" last="Becker"], 6’4" 200 lbs. Ranked 9th overall and #1 QB in Nebraska. Last year he went 31 for 76 passes for 429 yards and 53.9 yards a game. He also had 435 yards rushing for 83 yards. He made a big impact throwing against Roncalli in week 1 and he will look and continue his success. Defensive Standouts - [player_tooltip player_id="171365" first="Cole" last="Murray"] 6’2" 175 lbs, Though he started this year he is playing defense and offense. During the game against Elkhorn North, he had an interception and got two yards. He stays on the receiver and holds on and is able to get away and run fast.
Millard South Vs Elkhorn South
This matchup brings in two of the most talented teams in the state of Nebraska together to play in a game that could decide the front runners in the Class A State championship race. Elkhorn South had 402 Yards last week with 204 of those being on the ground and 198 others in the air. The Storm beat Millard West 35-21. Millard South is coming off of a huge victory over Millard North. Having 147 yards passing and 310 yards rushing. in a 55-14 victory over the Mustangs. Offensive Standouts - [player_tooltip player_id="164872" first="Christian" last="Nash"] RB 6’1" 220 lbs ranked 111th in Nebraska and 11th overall Running Back. During the game against the Mustangs, he had 187 yards and 3 touchdowns only on 7 carries. He was able to break through almost every tackle that went for him. He will be an extreme challenge for the Storm and their defense. Defensive Standouts- [player_tooltip player_id="151097" first="Chase" last="Emsick"] DT 6’4" 300 lbs, Chase is huge and he is full of strength pushing past the offensive line easy and fast. He gets past the blocks and goes right to the ball and hits hard. Last week he had 5 tackles, his speed off the snap and his strength are what put him up there with the best players in the state. Nash and the Patriots are gonna have a hard time running the ball with Chase and the Storm on the other side. b
Crieghton Prep V.S. Papillion La Vista
Papillion LaVista comes of a come-back win against in-town rival Papio South. The Monarchs came back from a 20 point deficit scoring 28 points in the second half to get back into the game and win. The Monarchs won by making all of their extra points. The Monarchs had 2 sacks last week and 1 fumble recovery. Their strong defense in the second half let the offense coming back. Creighton Prep is coming off of a loss during week one against Omaha Westside. The Junior Jays had 123 rushing yards and 4o yards passing from 4 completions. The Junior Jays have always been pretty good and they faltered against one of the best teams in Omaha Westside. The Jays are looking for a comeback game and to fix their mistakes from week one. Offensive Standout- [player_tooltip player_id="147988" first="Tyson" last="Money"], WR 5’10" 195lbs ranked 18 overall and 1st overall Wide Reciever. Money had 525 yards receiving last year and he is definitely looking forward to increasing that. He can be explosive even rushing the ball and a few touchdowns. Defensive Standout- [player_tooltip player_id="151098" first="Jack" last="Kirkwood"], MLB 6’3" 200lbs ranked 58 overall and 9th overall LB. He hits hard and can run up the speed. He has good form when wrapping and finishing plays. Kirkwood also has good knowledge of the ball and can seek it from where ever he is on the field.
