It was #1 VS #2 in Cushing on Friday night and it lived up to the hype and we can only hope that we end up seeing these two teams meeting up again in November or even December. In the regular season meeting, it was #2 Tuttle knocking off #1 Cushing on the road 22-7. You can read the full game recap RIGHT HERE. In this post, we take a closer look at the Tuttle Tigers and some of their standouts on both sides of the ball. Tuttle certainly has the reputation of being a complete team with no stars on the recruiting trail but that is simply not the case.
Canon West Canon West 5'11" | RB Tuttle | 2022 State OK – 2022 Running Back & Tyler Woodson Tyler Woodson 5'10" | 165 lbs | RB Tuttle | 2023 State OK – 2023 Running Back
We’re kicking off the Tuttle Scouting Report with the two-headed monster at the running back position. We truly couldn’t list one without the other so we’re combining them here with senior Canon West Canon West 5'11" | RB Tuttle | 2022 State OK and junior Tyler Woodson Tyler Woodson 5'10" | 165 lbs | RB Tuttle | 2023 State OK . These two players have absolutely torn up Cushing in the last two meetings. Last year, it was Woodson having a dominant performance as a sophomore and this year, it was the senior West, who finished with Player Of The Game honors after running for over 100 yards and all three Tuttle touchdowns. For West, he ended up being the workhorse for the Tuttle offense, finishing with a game-high 24 carries on the night. Woodson carried the ball 15 times but the majority of those carries came in the first half. Woodson also finished with 86 yards as the two combined for over 200 yards rushing. West as taking direct snaps and powering ahead behind a strong Tuttle offensive line. He would also line up as the single back behind quarterback Mason Dennis Mason Dennis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Tuttle | 2023 State OK throughout the second half. Woodson still provided plenty of fireworks on the evening. He had the longest run of the night when he broke off a 30-yard run. On Friday night, it was West that got the majority of the carries and the majority of the spotlight with his three touchdowns. But make no mistake, this is a legitimate two-headed monster and Tuttle will be very tough to stop this year when they have both lined up in the backfield at the same time.
Chance Cobb Chance Cobb 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Tuttle | 2022 OK – 2022 Defensive Back
We’ll preface this by saying we’re not sure what senior standout Chance Cobb Chance Cobb 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Tuttle | 2022 OK will be at the next level. He’s under 6’0 and showed plenty of athleticism on Friday night but he’s been somewhat under the radar in the state’s senior class as far as secondary prospects is concerned. But man he was fun to watch on Friday night in Cushing. Tuttle was able to really limit what Cushing’s passing offense was able to do on Friday night. Cobb as a big reason why. He was all over the field, he came up with one of three interceptions on the night. Cushing quarterback Blaze Berlowitz Blaze Berlowitz 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Cushing | 2023 State OK came into the game on Friday night with 16 touchdowns and only 1 interception through the first three games of the season. On Friday night, he had zero touchdowns and threw three interceptions. Berlowtiz and the Cushing passing attack could never find a groove on Friday and Cobb was a big reason behind that. Combined with a fantastic effort from the front seven, Cobb was flying all over the field. In addition to the interception, he also was laying the wood and was not afraid to put on some big hits throughout the evening. In terms of standouts on the defensive side of the ball, Cobb was at the top of the list.
Mason Dennis Mason Dennis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Tuttle | 2023 State OK – 2023 Quarterback
Our next prospect is QB1 for the Tigers in junior QB Mason Dennis Mason Dennis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Tuttle | 2023 State OK . Tuttle without a doubt did the majority of their damage in the ground game and didn’t require Dennis to make too many plays with his arm. For instance, Dennis only threw the ball 15 times on the night and Tuttle ended up running the ball 44 times throughout the evening. And Dennis won’t blow you away with the stats because Cushing’s defense did not make things easy at any point of the game. However, one of the biggest attributes that puts Dennis on this list is one that kept him in the game on Friday night, and that’s toughness. Cushing’s defense pinned their ears back and absolutely drilled Dennis on several hits throughout the night. A few times, he was down on the field but would always get up on his own and keep on playing. I was really impressed with both QB’s in the match-up because it was not an easy night or a clean pocket whatsoever. When Dennis was able to make some plays in the passing game, most of them went to our next prospect.
Mason Stokes Mason Stokes 6'3" | WR Tuttle | 2022 OK – 2022 Wide Receiver
The number one receiver in this run-first offense was senior wideout Mason Stokes Mason Stokes 6'3" | WR Tuttle | 2022 OK , who finished with three catches for 53 yards in the victory. His biggest play was when he caught a 40-yard bomb from Dennis in the first half that led to Tuttle’s only touchdown until the fourth quarter. Stokes, standing 6’4 is a legitimate weapon at the wide receiver position. However, as mentioned above with West and Woodson and brought up again when talking about Dennis at the quarterback position, this is a very heavy run-first team. Stokes won’t have some of the numbers that the other receivers in his class have because he simply won’t have as many opportunities to make plays throughout this season. But when his number was called on Friday night, in arguably the biggest game of the year, Stokes would consistently make a play. As for what he could end up being at the next level, he might move closer to the line of scrimmage as a tight end. He has the vertical frame and he appears to be a strong athlete. If he’s able to put on some weight and do work in the weight room, he could have a legitimate shot at the next level.
Parrish Terry Parrish Terry 6'6" | 245 lbs | DL Tuttle | 2022 State OK – 2022 Lineman
We mentioned Chance Cobb Chance Cobb 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Tuttle | 2022 OK as one of the top defensive standouts for Tuttle on Friday night and we’ll also throw senior lineman Parrish Terry Parrish Terry 6'6" | 245 lbs | DL Tuttle | 2022 State OK into that equation. Just like with Cobb, the big man Terry came up with an interception on Friday night. On a perfectly read play, Tuttle’s defense was zeroing in on a big hit to Cushing’s quarterback, it was a designed screen pass to the running back and Berlowitz lofted it just a little too long and Terry was able to read it, step back and make the interception. Terry was also right in the mix on the massive forced fumble and recovery that led to Tuttle’s touchdown in the fourth quarter that would really put the game out of reach. Terry pulls double duty for the Tigers as a defensive end and an offensive tackle. As we mentioned with West and Woodson, the Tuttle running game was on top of things and that was because the Tuttle offensive line was outstanding. Terry did a good job throughout the night but we like what he’s able to do on the defensive side of the ball. We really like Terry as a sleeper prospect in the 2022 class along the defensive line. He could bring versatility with him to the next level where he could remain on the edge like in high school or even move to the interior.
