Continue ReadingThe Broken Arrow Tigers made it close in the third quarter, but eventually the defense for Union took away any opportunity that the Tigers may have had to stay undefeated on the young season – which you can read about HERE. Despite the loss, it is clear that Broken Arrow is absolutely loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.
Joshua Willhite – 2023 Tight End
Willhite first caught my attention as the Tigers ran the ball fairly well to begin the game. His blocking helped spring the running back on the edge several times as he drove his opponent 10 to 20 yards downfield, clearing out a space for the ball carrier. As the game progressed it became clear that he is an outstanding route runner and pass catcher. He has great hands, did a good job of adjusting to the pass and has the speed to get away from any linebacker who might be covering him. Willhite was targeted five times and had 41 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Willhite looks to be a tremendous prospect and a well-rounded tight end that could definitely contribute at the next level.
Griffin Stieber Griffin Stieber 6'4" | 225 lbs | QB Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK – 2022 Quarterback
Stieber stands out from the outset with his tremeNdous size. The 6’4″, 210lb. former tight end is very mobile and has a cannon for an arm. His accuracy is a thing of beauty, though like any young quarterback, he did occasionally force a throw where none was. On the night, Stieber was 19-30 for 127 yards and four touchdowns. He did throw two interceptions which can be attributed to the aforementioned “forcing it.” With time and a level of comfort in the offense, Stieber will learn to look at more options or just “get rid of it.” Speaking of “getting rid of it,” Stieber can “get rid of it” as a punter, also. He punted five times for an average of 44.4 yard and a long of 55. Apparently there isn’t anything that Stieber can’t do on the football field.
Javion Franklin Javion Franklin 5'10" | DB Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK – 2022 Defensive Back
Franklin is the quintessential safety who does a great job of flashing into the play from anywhere on the field to lay a punishing hit on the opponent. He is extremely fast and does a good job of not only closing down on the opposing ball carrier, but getting in good position to lay a hit on them and stay balanced in order to not allow them to get past. He added an interception on a very well-read ball that was slightly floated, yet still required good speed to nab. Javion is a smart player who always seems to be around the ball. He is fun to watch, mainly because he is involved in every play and does a good job on the defensive end of denying his man the ball.
Robert Spears-Jennings Robert Spears-Jennings 6'2" | WR Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK – 2022 Wide Receiver
The first thing you notice about Spears-Jennings is his size. The dude is a big, especially for a wide receiver. He is quick and strong and showed tremendous hands. He is a handful for the opposing corner not only in the passing game where he outruns them consistently, but also in the run game where his size and strength completely over power any defender unlucky enough to be blocked by him. The Oklahoma recruit caught a touchdown and had five catches for 46 yards. The long, rangy receiver has an absolutely enormous catch radius and is able to catch almost anything thrown into his vicinity. His touchdown came on a well thrown ball and even better run route that saw him completely leave his defender and find himself all alone in the end zone.
