It is time for what we learned coming out of the second week of the football season. The 2021 season is shaping up to be a strong one for numerous teams and players this season.
The first thing we learned this week is that the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats are a strong team this season. North Little Rock uses a strong rushing attack to shorten the games. A strategy that helped lead them to a victory over the Fayetteville Bulldogs last Friday night. Running back Torrance Moore Torrance Moore 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB North Little Rock | 2023 State AR did a great job of churning out the first downs. Moore racked up 91 yards on 27 carries against a tough Fayetteville defense. With a strong ground game and a defense that held an electric Bulldog offense to only 7 points. North Little Rock is a team to watch out for entering conference play.
Meanwhile, the Rogers Mounties have had an impressive nonconference slate of games. The Rogers offense exploded on Friday night. The Mounties built momentum over the summer with good performances at several 7-on-7 tournaments and have kept the momentum going early on in the season. Last Friday, against Muskogee Noah Goodshield Noah Goodshield 5'9" | 160 lbs | QB Rogers | 2022 State AR threw for 261 yards and five touchdowns in just the first half alone. The Mounties will be a team to watch as conference play approaches. Keep an eye on Rogers.
Little Rock Mills is off to a hot start. The Comets have gone undefeated in nonconference play and are looking to continue the impressive play. Jabrae Shaw Jabrae Shaw 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Little Rock Mills | 2023 State AR has been tearing it up on the offensive side of the ball. Over the past three games, Shaw has rushed for 468 yards and three touchdowns. However, he was not done there, he also tacked on 15 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Anton Pierce Anton Pierce 6'3" | 205 lbs | DB Little Rock Mills | 2023 State AR has excelled on the defensive side of the ball. Pierce has picked off two passes, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble. Mills has the potential to be a difficult team to beat in conference play.
The last item that fans will want to pay attention is that the Bryant Hornets are off to a hot start again this season. In two games this season, the Hornets have allowed a total of 10 points scored against them. Running back Chris Gannaway Chris Gannaway 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Bryant | 2023 State AR exploded against Marion racking up 184 yards on the ground and punching the ball in the end zone four times. The high school football season is just getting started. However, it looks as if the team to contend with in the 7-A Conference is the Bryant Hornets.
Another week of the season is in the books, and it is time to set our sights on the third week of the season. We will preview several games throughout the week as well as pick a game to attend and to scout so stay tuned for that as well this week. The season is just getting started in the Natural State!
