Continue ReadingAlthough these players didn’t have standout performances, they were still among the best on the field during Friday night’s contest. Also, I happen to again catch a bit of the JV game and got a few quick hitters on some players along with one’s that passed the look test.
Montini:
2023 Wide receiver Mingo Nixon Mingo Nixon 6'0" | 150 lbs | WR Montini | 2023 State IL (6’2” and 185lbs) @NixonMingo
As the game progressed and both teams went to a heavy ground attack, Nixon was an afterthought. Although he did miss his one deep opportunity, it went right off his finger tips, the speed to pop the top of the offense is there. Working on his hands should be an offseason must for Nixon, but the talent is certainly there.
2023 Cornerback Dalonte Butcher Dalonte Butcher 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Plainfield East | 2023 State IL (5’10” and 175lbs) @DalonteButcher
Not tested often and that’s always a good sign when playing cornerback. Butcher has good size and showed a willingness to come up and play the run. He’s got solid hip flexibility and good footwork. Solid evening for Butcher.
2023 Safety Luke Pacelli (5’11” and 170lbs) @lukepacelli13
When you don’t allow any big passing plays, the safety has done their job and that’s what Pacelli did. He got great depth, keeping everything in front of him and made a few plays. He’ll have to get a bit bigger to stay at safety but I like Pacelli’s upside.
Marmion:
2024 Linebacker Jack Lesher (6’2” and 195lbs) @LesherJack
When a sophomore plays a big role in the defense, it’s impressive and that’s what Lesher did. He made multiple tackles and was creditied for a forced fumble. A great frame with a lot of potential, Lesher needs to be watched the next few seasons.
2022 Offensive guard Matthew Harris Matthew Harris 6'4" | 315 lbs | OL Marmion Academy | 2022 IL (6’4” and 325lbs) @matthewharrris
Harris led the way for the Marmion rushing offense to open holes, constantly moving the line and allowing the running backs to find interior holes. He does need to get in better shape to really make a bigger impact, but he’s strong and has great footwork.
2022 Cornerback Jackson Burroughs (5’11” and 165lbs) @JacksonBurroug2
Part of the reason why Montini went heavy on the ground was the fact that the receivers didn’t get much separation, Burroughs was a big reason why. He stayed on his man well and read when it was a run, came up and got into the mix. A very solid prospect that a team could give a flier to.
Montini Catholic JV look test:
2025 Defensive back Larry Wilder Jr (5’10” and 130lbs) @LWilderJr
Plenty of room to get bigger, Wilder made some plays you like to see from a young defensive back.
2025 Athlete Donovan Olugbode (6’1” and 175lbs)
I’ve seen him Olugbode before, but first time in pads and looks the part. Could end up on either side of the ball and heard he caught a long touchdown pass earlier in the game. Loads of potential.
2025 Defensive back Maxwell Bell (5’8” and 140lbs)
Solid movement on the few plays that I saw. Has the potential to be a player down the line.
2024 Wide receiver Quinn Boyer (6’ and 155lbs)
Looks the part, long and athletic. Need to see more, but I liked what little I saw.
2025 Lineman Colin Murray (6’3’ and 184lbs)
Huge frame with a lot of potential, solid lower half. Not sure where he ends up, but there’s a lot to work with.
Marmion JV look test:
2024 Quarterback Alfonso Barraza (6’1” and 170lbs) @aalfonsobarraza
Saw him throw a few passes, has solid arm strength and accuracy. Needs to work on his footwork but plenty of talent. Dressed with the varsity squad.
2025 Linebacker Sean Dahlman (6’4” and 185lbs) @Sxan_1k
Huge frame, looked well when he moved. Plays some DB which will bode well when he ultimately adds on more weight and settles in as an outside linebacker.
2025 Defensive lineman Chimaobi Oguike (6’1” and 210lbs)
Hard to miss when he was rushing the passer, has an thick and athletic frame. Definitely is one to watch the next few years.
2024 Defensive lineman Dylan Carney (6’1” and 215lbs)
Solid frame with plenty to work with. Interested to see what position he grows into.
2024 Defensive back Jack Matthews (5’11” and 160lbs)
Another with solid size, has a good back pedal but does need to work on other technical aspects of being a defensive back.
