It was a hard-fought battle going back and forth throughout the game, Peotone was able to come away with the 35 – 21 win keeping the helmet for another year. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Defensive Standouts for this matchup.
Peotone
Tyler Hendricker Tyler Hendricker 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Peotone | 2022 State IL 6’4 230 22’ DL Twitter
Mr. Hendricker does a good job of filling gaps in run support. Once the ball is hiked, he holds his gap responsibility at the snap of the ball before attacking the ball carrier. He does this by taking the block head-on and using his hands at the line of scrimmage. If the play is going away from him, he takes a backside pursuit angle going straight down the line of scrimmage to make the tackle on the play.
Dawson Piper 5’10 180 23’ LB Twitter
Mr. Piper is a hard-hitting linebacker that isn’t afraid to attack downhill. This young man fills holes in run support where he has the ability to meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage resulting in no gain on the play. He does so by taking his read step, once he pops his hips and diagnoses where the play is going he flows to the ball to make the tackle.
Joel Lee 6’1 190 22’ LB
Mr. Lee does a good job of limiting the ball carrier to bounce the plays to the outside and turn the corner. He does this by covering sideline to sideline quickly utilizing his closing speed to make the open field tackles. This young man fills holes in run support and has an aggressive playstyle to him. Once the ball is snapped and he diagnoses who has the ball, he attacks downhill to make the tackle.
Manteno
Manuel Carrera 6’3 210 22’ DL
Mr. Carrera is a new name to me. He fills gaps in run support where he takes on the block head-on. This young man penetrated the backfield on more than one occasion by using his hands at the point of attack and mixing in his strength to push the offensive lineman into the backfield. If the play is going away from him he goes flat across the line of scrimmage to make the chasedown tackle from behind.
Jaden Salin 5’5 150 22’ DB
Mr. Salin is another new name to me. He doesn’t give up on plays by taking pursuit angles to make the tackle downfield. This young man also fills holes in run support where he attacks downhill to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage. He also made quite a few open-field tackles as well where he stayed square to the ballcarrier to bring him down.
