If you are wondering what we do with our content when it comes to the our Games of the Week we attend, we will always start off with a game recap going over exactly how the game was won and what it took to get there. Then we break into analysis mode and dish out the Big Dogs of the Game on offense and defense and what skillsets these kids showed during the game. These three articles give each program ample exposure to college programs across the Midwest. One of my favorite things about scouting for Prep Redzone is finding those young men from small schools in our area that the college coaches and other subscribers of Prep Redzone don’t know about yet.
I hope you enjoy my game report from the 3A battle between Providence Academy and Spectrum High School!
Scoring
1st Quarter
-Providence Academy RB Stormy Knight (2023) punches it in from 4 yards out to get the Lions on the board first.
Providence Academy 7, Spectrum 0.
-The Sting answered the Lions call when RB Jon Greig (2023) sprinted up the sideline for a 75 yard run for a Sting touchdown. I would chop this 75-yard sprint as the play of the game for the Sting offensively.
Providence Academy 7, Spectrum 7.
-After a strip-sack by Spectrum LB Max Reis (2022) DE Brandon Riddle Brandon Riddle 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE MN recovered the fumble for an 18-yard gain, as the Sting got their first lead of the ball game.
Spectrum 14, Providence Academy 7.
-To end the first quarter, we saw the excellent mobility of Providence Academy QB Jack Reller (2022) who sprinted 45 yards to put the Lions back in it as we ended in a tie to end the first quarter.
Providence Academy 14, Spectrum 14. End of 1st Quarter.
Second Quarter
-After Providence Academy DB Josue Riley (2023) picked off Spectrum QB Tanner Gangl Tanner Gangl 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Spectrum | 2023 State MN the Lions were then in full position to take the game over, starting in their redzone off the interception. After some solid runs by Jacob Meissner Jacob Meissner 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Providence Academy | 2022 State MN and Stormy Knight, the Lions punched it in from 2 yards out with RB Kaden LaComb (2022) to start the Lions charge of momentum.
Providence Academy 21, Spectrum 14.
-The Lions would yet again cash in on another mistake by the Sting, as a botched snap on the 4th down punt, caused the Lions yet again to have the ball in the red zone with short yardage for a touchdown. They wouldn’t waste any time as QB Jack Reller (2022) found WR Josh Mogeni (2022) for an 18-yard touchdown.
Providence Academy 28, Spectrum 14.
-After the Providence Academy score, Spectrum QB Tanner Gangl Tanner Gangl 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Spectrum | 2023 State MN (2023) let a deep ball rip with excellent touch for a 46-yard touchdown to WR Titus Skistad (2022) which would, unfortunately, be one of the last scores for the String until late in the 4th quarter.
Providence Academy 28, Spectrum 22.
-After the Spectrum score, the Lions drove their well-oiled machine down the field and we saw an excellent run with plenty of yards after contact from Providence Academy RB Jacob Meissner Jacob Meissner 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Providence Academy | 2022 State MN who’s running ability was clutch on the inside lanes for most of the night as Meissner used his well put together body (5’11 195) to drive the bus down the Sting run defense in the first three quarters.
Providence Academy 35, Spectrum 22.
-The Lions were certainly not done in the third quarter. After controlling the tempo on defense led by Mark McCarthy Mark McCarthy 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE Providence Academy | 2022 State MN knocking down a key pass on the drive, Providence Academy kept with what they had working with RB Stormy Knight (2023) as he scored from a few yards out to punch in his second touchdown of the day.
Providence Academy 42, Spectrum 22. Halftime.
3rd Quarter
-It was yet again RB Jacob Meissner Jacob Meissner 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Providence Academy | 2022 State MN (2022) who started his touchdown run inside and then showed the durability to push his run outside for what was another Lions touchdown and Meissner’s second touchdown of the night from 18 yards out.
Providence Academy 49, Spectrum 22.
-To close out the end of the third quarter, it would be a familiar name to this game recap as Stormy Knight (2023) added his third touchdown on the evening from 4 yards out.
Providence Academy 56, Spectrum 22. End of 3rd Quarter.
4th Quarter
-This game would be very back and forth from the end of the 3rd quarter to the near end of the 4th quarter with both rosters turning to their 2nd and 3rd string players to get them some reps. A prospect that showed some promise on his rushing touchdown was Spectrum RB Jairus Sorensen (2023) who caught everyone’s attention late in the 4th quarter with his 36 yard scoot to the end zone.
Providence Academy 56, Spectrum 29. Final.
