HERITAGE HALL 44, MILLWOOD 18 |
In its annual inter-class, non-district rivalry match, Heritage Hall got the best of Millwood 44-18 Thursday night at home. It marked the third consecutive season the Chargers opened the year with a win against the Falcons.
TURNING POINT |
Millwood kept it pretty narrow in the first half, with neither team picking up any real momentum until the closing minutes of the second quarter, when Heritage Hall scored, then Millwood, then Heritage Hall again in a 29-second span of game-time. Millwood nearly scored again and had the opportunity to make it a one-score game going into the half, but the Chargers held strong to take a 16-6 lead into halftime.
Out of the halftime break, it was all Hall as the Chargers scored a pair of touchdowns unanswered in the third, ultimately sealing the win.
PLAYER OF THE GAME |
Faulkner was unquestionably the most productive player of the night, scoring four touchdowns on 147 yards rushing, slicing through and abusing the Millwood defense.
The junior has great speed and intuition in the back-field, and he especially has great trust in his offensive line, showcasing on his 21 carries exceptional patience and great acceleration after hitting the hole.
Faulkner’s third touchdown was perhaps the most impressive, as he broke off for 41 yards to give the Chargers a 30-6 lead and little hope for the Falcons to make it a game afterward. It was that touchdown, which gave Faulkner the hat trick, which he was most fond of following the performance.
“I think the third, long one was the game-changer,” Faulkner said.
- An honorable mention and close second behind Faulkner’s performance was Gavin Freeman Gavin Freeman 5'10" | WR Heritage Hall | 2022 State OK , who scored a touchdown, caught an interception, and blocked a PAT on an impressive night. The interception, in fact, nearly qualified for play of the game as Freeman shook almost the entire Millwood defense on his way to the end zone, but the score was called back for a block-in-the-back.
