MINNEAPOLIS-- As we kick off our Friday double coverage,we start in the Metro as we evaluate seven prospects that I named as Nate’s Big Dogs of the Game in this tight 4A battle between Minneapolis South & Brooklyn Center. Jaquill White | RB | Minneapolis South | 2022 Especially in the first half, White showed solid patience in his runs waiting for the play to develop before hitting his inside gaps. His running ability showed to look like a bull at a rodeo as he showed the horns by getting low in between the opposing tacklers. He also showed his cutting ability inside to get a few extra yards off contact White is a well-put-together 5’7 200-pound tailback that hopefully can develop better endurance and stamina throughout the season as he did show signs of slowing down in the second half compared to the first half. Tape vs. BC Rahmal Tarr | TE/DL | Brooklyn Center | 2022 Tarr did not get many targets in this one, but the one 30 yard catch he had over the middle of the field opened up my eyes to this young man. He showed good speed off the snap for his size (6’3 250) and looked to be a rumbler over the middle of the field that took a gang of Tigers to take this kid to the turf, in which the play was stopped dead and Rahmal was still on his feet! Watching some of his other game tapes, Tarr shows solid pull speed when getting to his blocks and a real physical presence to go along with it. I think this young man is under the radar and has the skillsets to play at the next level. Tape vs. Patrick Henry [player_tooltip player_id="116495" first="Adam" last="Kelbrants"] | WR/DB | Minneapolis South | 2022 Kelbrants to me looked like the most dominant player the Tigers had on both sides of the ball on Friday. He has a solid frame and a strong work ethic on the field to power his way thru contact as he did on the first touchdown of the game. Defensively, Kelbrants has a high physicality level on his tackles and attacks the ball at a high level. Adam also has excellent vision and can read where the football is going with ease. Kelbrants was the Big Dog of the Game for sure for the Minneapolis South Tigers in my book. Kelbrants is another young man that I believe has college football in his future with also great character. Tape vs. BC Max Madyun | DB/WR | Brooklyn Center | 2022 Madyun made the game-sealing interception for the Centaurs late in the 4th quarter after a solid day in the secondary. Madyun showed some struggles with his hands during this game but that play for sure brought confidence back into his game defensively in the end. Madyun showed a prospect that has a big hitter mentality and does well adjusting to where the football is while in pursuit of his opposing receiver’s routes. Madyun was the Centaur’s QB last year and has the potential to develop better hands as this season winds on for Brooklyn Center. Check out the interception Max had here. Rio Starr | ATH | Minneapolis South | 2022 Starr was a Big Dog prospect that caught my eyes, especially in his second-half play. This young man was a bulldozer thru contact with a strong burst and really helped the Tigers out with his play in the kick return game. Rio showed a raw yet solid running ability on the inside lanes and excelled into the gaps he was given by the Tigers offensive line. On defense, he showed off a good-sized coverage area that can cover some ground and can make some strong tackles. Starr is a late-bloomer prospect that I feel is just scratching the surface when it comes to his potential. Tape vs. BC [player_tooltip player_id="116480" first="Warren" last="Kinney"] | DB/RB | Brooklyn Center | 2022 I believe Kinney sealed the deal watching a college-level defensive back in the making. Kinney was likely the hardest hitter I saw from the Centaurs defense and caused enough contact to make a hit on the South ball carrier, and then outran the Tigers offense for a scoop and score for a touchdown in which he showed off his stamina and endurance to go nearly 60 yards for the score. His stat line at running back didn’t break the headlines on Friday, but from the sidelines, you can tell this young man works his tail off for every yard he can get and that work ethic for sure shows on both sides of the football. Kinney gets my nod for the official Big Dog of the Game finishing with two touchdowns from both sides of the football. Game Tape vs. Patrick Henry Romerus Sykora | RB/DB | Brooklyn Center | 2022 Sykora was another prospect I enjoyed watching from the Centaurs on both sides of the ball. Sykora showed solid speed on the outside edges and was the most efficient carrying the rock for Brooklyn Center on the day. He also was a textbook tackler when the football came his way and was a ballhawk in my eyes as he showed good movement all around the field getting to where the ball was. Watching a little more film from Sykora, I am very curious as to where he’s at recruiting-wise, as I see him as a scholarship-level talent that is flying under the radar for the Centaurs. Jr Tape Deshaun Pongsak | QB | Brooklyn Center | 2024 Pongsak showed some promise as a young quarterback that made some solid throws for Brooklyn Center on Friday afternoon. There is a lot to like about Deshaun’s quick release in the pocket as that looked to be his best skillset when I evaluated him on Friday. As just a sophomore, I think if he can improve his throwing accuracy on the run as he grows for two more years in that Centaurs offense. He also has great measurables for the position at 6’3 200 pounds. Pongsak should be a QB to watch out of 2024 class in my eyes as he won the QB battle out of the two sophomores that went at in this game between South and Brooklyn Center. Not much tape yet, but stay tuned. Tape vs. MPLS South
