Across the area, QB/WR combinations put up some gaudy numbers in a huge week.
Two ranked QBs in the 2022 class led the way. Spartanburg’s Raheim Jeter Raheim Jeter 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Spartanburg | 2023 State SC and Westside’s Peter Zamora Peter Zamora 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Westside | 2022 State SC looked fantastic in a pair of victories.
Zamora helped the Rams pick up a high-profile victory, as Westside held off Byrnes 64-62 in a thriller. Zamora threw for 388 yards and 5 TDs in the victory. He spread the ball to seven different receivers, with Cameron Spadafina and Jimmar Boston Jimmar Boston 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Westside | 2024 State SC each notching more than 100 receiving yards.
“I definitely just stay in the flow,” Zamora said of the back-and-forth shootout. “I don’t try to go and win it all in one play, or put the game on my shoulders. I just take it one throw at at time and try to get the ball to my playmakers.”
Zamora said those playmakers stepped up on Friday.
“We knew Byrnes had a prolific offense, and that we’d have to put up some big numbers,” Zamora said. “My guys rose to the occasion. A lot of guys got involved.”
At Boiling Springs, Jeter and Spartanburg dismantled the Bulldogs. Playing just more than two quarters, Jeter threw for 442 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of that went to Andrew Dantin, who pulled in 12 catches for 281 yards and a 23.4 yards per catch average.
“That’s Andrew,” Jeter said with a laugh. “He’s like 7-11. He’s always open. When he gets the ball in his hands, he’s got the ability to do what he did last night.”
Jeter, who’s recovering from a pre-season shoulder injury, said his recovery is going well.
“I’m feeling good,” he said. “I’ve just been rehabbing it, trying to get back to 100 percent.”
Zamora and Jeter were perhaps the highest-profile passers who turned in monster nights, but they were far from the only ones:
• Across the field from Zamora, Byrnes’ Gabe Rogers (pictured) put up even bigger numbers in the Rebels’ loss. Rogers threw for 474 yards and 6 TDs for the Rebels, as Thomas Gregory Thomas Gregory 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Byrnes | 2022 SC had 7 catches for 163 yards and four of the scores. Collin Imhoff continued his impressive play with 11 catches for 129 yards.
• At Chapman, Drew Settle Drew Settle 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Chapman | 2022 State SC had another outstanding night in the Panthers’ 42-35 loss to Brookland-Cayce. Settle threw for 405 yards and 4 scores, with DJ Black DJ Black 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Chapman | 2022 State SC hauling in 14 receptions for 253 yards and two touchdowns.
• Pendleton’s Kameron Jones threw for 358 yards and 4 TDs for the Bulldogs, with Ethan Jackson Ethan Jackson 5'11" | 210 lbs | LB Pendleton | 2022 State SC accounting for 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.
•Riverside stayed perfect at 4-0, as Rob Sanders threw for 340 yards, with Cayden Cosby and Alex Riddle Alex Riddle 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Riverside | 2022 State SC putting up big receiving numbers.
