Unity Christian, West Catholic, Spring Lake, and Coopersville all stand at 5-0 going into the final stretch, which is packed with interleague play. Let’s look at the current rankings, and highlight the best players in this league.
Standings (Tiebreakers decided by highest PF-PA vs league)
(5-0) Unity Christian: The Drew & Cam Chandler duo is looking unstoppable as Unity Chrisitan is rolling. Against league play, they average an outstanding 56PPG with only 10PAPG. The crazy thing about Unity Christian is that there’s not one athlete that stands too far above the rest. They play incredible team ball.
(5-0) West Catholic: Another team that’s hitting on all cylinders, West Catholic is on fire. RB Timmy Kloska Timmy Kloska 6'0" | 220 lbs | RB Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2023 State MI is already way past the 1000 yard mark and with standout QB Noah Arsulowicz with an elite offensive line, West Catholic has the star power to beat most teams. They’re well-coached and have a big senior class. Could this be the year West Catholic returns to the state championship?
(5-0) Spring Lake: One of my better preseason predictions was that Spring Lake was going to improve even more. Ever since the hiring of head coach Dan Start in 2016, Spring Lake has been slowly building the program year after year. Brodie Lightfoot, who previously played in Texas, has been a key addition to the Spring Lake team.
(5-0) Coopersville: After a big win against Allendale, Coopersville is very confident heading into the final stretch. DE Tim Allen looked absolutely incredible, and the offense was hitting on all cylinders. On paper, Coopersville has the second-best defense in the OK-Blue, but the 5th best offense. I’m very excited to see what the Coopersville D can do against the other undefeated teams in the conference.
(2-3) Allendale: Without Cole DiPiazza Cole DiPiazza RB Allendale | 2022 MI , Allendale looked lost last night, especially on offense. Domenico Tejeda looks great anchoring the front 7, though they need more players to step up if they want to become an elite program. For the rest of the season and beyond, I want to see greater student leadership and offensive identity.
(2-3) Hamilton: Not a great year thus far for Hamilton as they’re 2-3, and 0-3 in league play. They lack big standout talent, and they’ve given up the most points out of any team in the league and scored the 2nd least. They have some games they can win coming up, and we’ll see if that happens.
(1-4) Fruitport: Following Fruitport this season has been disappointing. They could easily be 3-2, or even 4-1 as they’ve lost two games by one score or less, and another by two scores. They’ve fallen just short too many times this season, but I could surely see them winning their next 3 games.
(1-4) Holland Christian: Another season where Holland Christian looks flat. The one win was against Holland high school, though other than that, they’ve been blown out in league play.
