Continue ReadingThe High School Football season is now in full swing and we have another slate of great Grand Rapids matchups. Last week we saw records broken, close games, surprising blowouts, and everything in between. We’re lucky to have many great matchups on both Thursday, September 2, and Friday, September 3. Here are 4 of the best matchups that you should consider attending this week.
Games to watch
Muskegon (1-0) vs Cass Tech (1-0) Sept. 3 – Cass Tech will travel to Muskegon on Friday in what will be a battle of two of the best programs in the state. Muskegon is headlined by many big names including CB Myles Walton Myles Walton 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Muskegon | 2022 State MI , and OT Dominic Sugin. Cass Tech is led by 4-Star DT Deone Walker Deone Walker 6'7" | 315 lbs | DL Cass Tech | 2022 State MI , a prospect that’s receiving offers from the likes of Michigan and Alabama. This should be an incredibly entertaining matchup, and if you’re looking to see the biggest names from the biggest programs, far be it a bit of a drive from GR, this is the game for you.
Fruitport (1-0) vs Cadillac (1-0) Sept. 2 – Fruitport impressed last week with a 42-2 beatdown of Kenowa Hills. With Fruitport seeming to have made progress on defense, and with QB Gavin Reames Gavin Reames 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Fruitport | 2022 MI playing out of his mind, Fruitport has the opportunity to surprise many. Cadillac on the other hand is coming off a close win against Reed City and is looking to continue their recent success. Cadillac runs a great veer-style offense very similar to Seaholm, with amazing RB talent with Collin Johnson Collin Johnson 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Cadillac | 2022 MI and Chris Reinhold Jr. Cadillac is going to be the heavy favorite, but I wouldn’t count Fruitport out. This is a matchup that I will likely be covering.
East Grand Rapids (0-1) vs South Christian (1-0) Sept. 3 – Coming off a 44-27 loss against a very good Zeeland West team, East Grand Rapids looks to bounce back against one of the best D4 teams in the state in South Christian. East GR needs to play sound football if they want to defeat the high-powered sailors. This means great performances by C Hayden Bentley and DE Nick Collins are coming to be crucial in addition to new names rising to the occasion. On South Christians’s end, they’re coming off a huge second-half performance against rival GR Christian. Winning the rivalry 27-7, Jace DeMann had 2 INT’s and 1 TD, with great kicking from Nate Brinks. This matchup looks like it’s going to be close, and It’s a game I’m highly considering covering.
Forest Hills Central (1-0) vs Grand Blanc (1-0) Sept. 3 – Grand Blanc travels to Eastern GR to face a very good Forest Hills Central team that nearly defeated Mona Shores in last year’s playoffs. Grand Blanc comes into this one having just won an incredible game against East Lansing. The Grand Blanc Bobcats have the no. 12 ranked kicker in the country in Dylan Hertzherg, an asset that can quickly change any high school game. In addition, Bobcats senior RB Elijah Jackson-Anderson Elijah Jackson-Anderson 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Grand Blanc | 2022 State MI scored 3 touchdowns in the big win, and he’s looking for a repeat performance this Friday. On Forest Hills Central’s end, they’re no joke being an experienced team with huge returning starters such as dual-threat QB Hunter Robinson and 2nd team all-state MLB Tyler Weaver Tyler Weaver 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Forest Hills Central | 2022 MI .
COVID-19 cancelations are still a possibility. Every week there will be a chance that games are postponed for this reason. Make sure to check local news outlets, Prep Redzone Twitter, and other sources to make sure any game you’re looking to see is still on.
