The long dog days of summer are over and time to tee up the pigskin has finally arrived. With numerous MAIS schools participating in jamboree/scrimmage action last week, they can officially tee it up this week. Other MHSAA squads will get in jamboree/scrimmage action this week before officially kicking off campaigns next week. Let’s take a look at which games we will be having eyes on this week:
MAIS
Greenville Christian (1-0) @ Jackson Prep
Greenville Christian hung 58 points on the board in jamboree action vs Madison-Ridgeland Academy last week led by QB Deandre Smith Deandre Smith 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Greenville Christian | 2022 State MS 7TD. The Saints cemented themselves as true players in MAIS 1-3A. Jackson Prep will look to get off to a fast start in MAIS 1-6A where they are always a favorite.

MRA (0-1) @ Cathedral
The MRA defense was torched last Friday by the talented Greenville Christian and will look to get things back on track this week. Cathedral impressed with a 10-2 run last year and will look to replicated under Chuck Darbonne

Brandon @ West Point – Played at East Mississippi CC
Brandon struggled mightily last season in which they went 5-6, but two of those victories came due to Covid forfeits. They draw a tough jamboree test in Chris Chambless Green Wave. Cameron Young Cameron Young 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB West Point | 2022 State MS looks to lead the offense for Coach Chambless and Keon Cunningham Keon Cunningham 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB West Point | 2022 State MS will pilot the defense. This will be the first look at the 5A pre-season favorites.
Oxford vs. Horn Lake
Oxford looks to get back to the state title game for the 3rd year in a row under Coach Cutcliffe. Alex Sanford Alex Sanford 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Oxford | 2023 State MS and Omar Howell Omar Howell 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Oxford | 2022 State MS will be names to watch all year for the Chargers. Horn Lake will look to move back to the top of a revamped Region 1-6A.
Houston @ East Webster
EW has one of the best 1-2 punches on the defensive side of the football in the state with Zy Ford Zy Ford 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB East Webster | 2022 State MS and Jontavis Cunningham Jontavis Cunningham 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH East Webster | 2022 State MS . They will be disruptive all year long and will test Coach Baylor Dampeer of Houston as he gets ready to open year number 2 in Chickasaw County.
