Across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand, Friday’s games led to five who had big games and led their teams to victories. They’ve earned themselves a Prep Red Zone game ball.
The initial list for this season included two tailbacks, two junior quarterbacks and a big defensive end transfer.
Terry McKithen Terry McKithen 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB West Florence | 2022 State SC , West Florence – Amid some last-minute craziness with the Knights trying to find a home game to open their new stadium, McKithen just went out and got it done. At Class 5A school Lexington on the road, McKithen had 125 rushing yards. More importantly, he got into the end zone four times, including the game-clincher with about a minute to go.
Scott Saylor, Carolina Forest (pictured) – As far as starting debuts go, Saylor’s was pretty strong. The junior quarterback was a stout 13-of-14 passing for 219 yards and three scores in Carolina Forest’s 70-41 win at West Brunswick. For good measure, Saylor also rushed for 59 yards and another three touchdowns.
Daishone Small, Trinity Collegiate – At 6-foot-2 and 320 pounds, it was tough to miss Small last year, even when he was playing for SCHSL Region VI-4A school Darlington. After a summer transfer to Trinity, he had eight tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack in the team’s victory against Charlotte Country Day.
Ahmad Gerald, Aynor – The senior helped the Blue Jackets start the season off on the right foot against Lake View. Th 5-foot-11, 240-pound tailback had 133 yards and three touchdowns against the Wild Gators. Overall, Aynor rushed for 420 yards, with Gerald getting approximately one-third of the team’s carries.
LaNorris Sellers LaNorris Sellers 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB South Florence | 2023 State SC , South Florence – Sellers had a solid sophomore campaign, and he continued to show how much he’s developed just since the end of last year in the Bruins’ opener. He had 170 yards and three touchdowns through the air (on 11-of-18 passing) and rushed for another 45 yards against Bluffton in South’s first on-campus game in new their home stadium.
