We know there are some high-level QBs across Georgia and they all need weapons to throw too. We saw elite receivers prove why they’re ranked so high, and we saw others who are coming off a breakout game. Either way, it was a big opening weekend for playmaking wide receivers across the state.
Here are some of the top wide receiver performances from week 1….
Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA – Collins Hill
The nation’s top prospects in the 2022 class, Hunter proved why he’s an elite prospect and one of the best pure athletes to come out of Georgia in years. Leading Collins Hill to a big 36-10 victory, Hunter was unstoppable throughout the night and had the chance to make a game-changing impact on any particular play. Hunter’s speed was on display as he was a dangerous down-field threat all game. He created separation with ease and made it all look way easier than it really is. Hunter’s elite ball skills, body control, and exceptional hands made it easy to see why he’s the top-ranked player in the country. He did everything he wanted against Brookwood and made his mark on the state sheet. Hunter caught 13 passes for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns. The 5-star also threw a TD pass and had an INT on defense as well. He could not have turned in a better performance and he’s likely to do it each and every week.
Kaleb Webb – WR – McEachern
It might be odd to call him a “breakout” star performer because he is currently committed to a D1 program in East Carolina, but Webb’s four-touchdown performance for McEachern could lead to more offers in the coming weeks. The senior was unstoppable for the Indians this week against Kell. Webb caught three touchdown passes including one leaping grab for a long score. He’s added some weight and muscle this offseason and used his size to his advantage all game. He was able to create separation from the Kell defensive backs and was a reliable option for QB Bryce Archie Bryce Archie 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB McEachern | 2022 State GA if he was looking to throw the ball deep. Webb also returned a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving him four for the game. Look for his stock to rise quickly over the next few weeks. Webb finished the game with 6 receptions for 146 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
George Futch – Savannah Christian
An undersized kid playing at a small school, Futch is a great athlete who shows good body control and ball skills. As s senior, many expected Futch to come out win a big game to start thee season and that’s exactly what happened. They were on the losing side of their game against Emmanuel County, but Futch made sure he gave his best effort. He caught 7 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown in the season opener. He can get up in the air and make a tough catch over a defender, and he’s a decent route runner. He’s not the fastest guy, but he’s crafty. He’s got good hands and can also turn around and help on defense as well.
