There were teams who went on the road to win games against tough out-of-state competition, while others shocked the box state by snapping significant losing streaks.
Now that the leaderboards are in the beginning stages of being filled, it is time to highlight some of the top performers from the opening week.
Below is a list of the top ten receivers in order of yards gained.
Kade Jones | Alamosa | 6’3”, 175lbs | 2023 WR
Jones finished the season opener with a state-high of 211 yards and one touchdown off of 12 receptions (2nd most) in a 38-13 defeat to The Classical Academy. Jones and the Alamosa Mean Moose will be hosting Monte Vista on Friday night.
Dorion McGarity Dorion McGarity WR Fort Collins | 2022 State CO | Fort Collins | 5’10”, 175lbs | 2022 WR
McGarity led the Lambkins receivers with eight receptions for 209 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-29 win over Legacy. Fort Collins will be traveling to Ponderosa for a Friday night matchup.

Dominic Mazzulla | Holy Family | 6’2”, 215lbs | 2022 TE/DE
Mazzulla is the state’s third-leading receiver with a total of 190 yards and two touchdowns off of only four catches in a 34-27 victory over Pueblo South. The Holy Family Tigers will be hosting Roosevelt on Friday night.

Desmond Burton | Mesa Ridge | 5’8”, 164lbs | 2022 WR/DB
Burton completed his senior debut with seven receptions for 153 yards and one touchdown in a 31-28 win over Denver South. In addition to his offensive catches, he also managed to snag an interception while on defense. Mesa Ridge will be hosting a high-powered Palmer Ridge team on Thursday night.
Elijah Hubert | Silver Creek | 5’10”, 175lbs | 2022 WR/DB
Hubert found himself at the receiving end of six catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-9 victory over Mountain View. Hubert and the Raptors have a home game against Centaurus on Friday night.
Omar Perez Omar Perez ATH Wiggins | 2023 State CO | Wiggins | 5’8” | 2023 WR
Perez helped to lead his team to a 38-21 victory over Highland by hauling in nine catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns in week one. The Tigers will be looking to continue on their victorious path when they host Valley on Friday night.
Jack Moll Jack Moll 6'2" | 195 lbs | WR Longmont | 2022 State CO | Longmont | 6’1”, 180lbs | 2022 WR
Moll accounted for five receptions for 145 yards and one touchdown in a hard-fought 49-43 loss to Chatfield in week one. The Trojans will be looking to bounce back on Friday night when they play host to the Broomfield Eagles.

Connor Ladd | Lakewood | 2022 ATH
Ladd opened his season campaign with 10 receptions (3rd most) for 143 yards and two touchdowns, as well as four carries for 39 yards and one touchdown in a 32-27 loss to Bear Creek. The Tigers will be looking to regroup when they travel to Westminster for a Friday night matchup.
Brandon Hills Brandon Hills 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR Vista Ridge | 2023 State CO | Vista Ridge | 5’9”, 165lbs | 2023 WR
Hills hauled in six catches for 138 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-20 win over Windsor in the season opener. Hills and the Wolves will be hosting a tough Dakota Ridge team that is fresh off of an out-of-state win over Florida’s First Coast.

Brayden Munroe Brayden Munroe 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Chaparral | 2023 CO | Chaparral | 6’2”, 190lbs | 2023 WR
Munroe opened the season with a phenomenal performance on both sides of the ball in a 35-21 win over Eaglecrest. Offensively, he hauled in seven catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns. As a defender, he was able to come down with two interceptions for his team. Munroe and the Wolverines will be hosting the Rock Canyon Jaguars on Thursday night.
