The Vipers showcased a strong offensive showing as well as a strong defensive showing, shutting down what usually is a tough Cedar Park team. Regardless, Vandegrift just put its foot down and showed Central Texas the Vipers mean business.
1. Brayden Buchanan (JR-QB)
Starting off with the starting quarterback, Buchanan made a name for himself as he threw 164 yards and three touchdowns with one interception against a notoriously tough Cedar Park defense. Buchanan also rushed in one touchdown as well, accounting for 24 points for the Vipers overall, not counting PATs. Buchanan got off to a perfect start to his junior season with such a strong showing.
2. Alex Witt (JR-RB)
Although most of the scoring was through the air, Witt made sure that the run game was not forgotten, rushing for 100 yards in 11 carries. He averaged 9.1 yards per carry. Considering the talent behind both senior running back Ryan Sheppard and Witt, it will be hard for defenses to shut down both moving forward.
3. Reece Beauchamp (SR-WR)
Beauchamp seemed to be the favorite target in this game as he had four receptions for 132 yards and three touchdowns. On top of that, Beauchamp also threw a passing touchdown in the game. Over the years, Beauchamp has shown just how athletic he is playing multiple positions, and that is still very much the case. He will be fun to watch moving forward, but he had an impressive showing at wide receiver last night.
4. Vandegrift Secondary
It is tough to pick just one player from the secondary because it was three different players that each got an interception. Senior Griffin Shaffer, senior Jaxon Oliver and senior Davis Citro all were able to grab a pick in the game. What this shows is that Vandegrift’s secondary will be a tough one to throw against and considering Cedar Park’s nature of throwing the ball often, this could have been the Timberwolves’ downfall in the game. Future opposing teams will have to be extra cautious to not make mistakes against this secondary.
