The Five: Mr. Football Candidates – Class 4A
In this article:
Continuing our look at the top contenders for Mr. Football, Class 4A presents a large group of prospects that have a shot at winning top honors but not one guy as the clear cut favorite, however a lot of guys on equal footing.
This should be a fun race to watch as I could several guys listed below winning top honors.
Class 4A
1. (QB) Bryson Rollins Bryson Rollins 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Elizabethton | 2022 State TN (6’0 192) – Elizabethton
– Rollins is one of the more heralded quarterbacks in state’s history as he is a two time state champ, however he is missing one big honor and that’s Mr. Football. This will be his last go around and shot at winning top individual honors and he has a great shot at accomplishing this goal. Rollins is an athletic guy with deep ball accuracy and tremendous leadership. He has some nice pieces around him on offense that will help him look good and put up big numbers. If Rollins makes it to another state title game, it will be hard not to give him Mr. Football.
2. (Ath) Anthony Brown Anthony Brown 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Milan | 2022 State TN (6’1 190) – Milan
– This West Tennessee Power Five prospect is in line for a monster senior season and if all goes according to plan, Brown will once again find himself as a finalist for Mr. Football and even possibly walk away as the winner. The Bulldogs star prospect should once again play both ways this season. Brown could be the quarterback yet again, which means the ball will be in his hands on a consistent basis. He will also play on defense at safety where he has the chance to put up big numbers, including turnovers. Milan has a shot at not only winning a state title this year but also Mr. Football in Brown that will be playing big time college ball next season.
3. (QB) Kyle Lowe Kyle Lowe 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Fayette Ware | 2022 State TN (6’0 190) – Fayette-Ware
– Momentum is a great thing to have on your side and that’s what Lowe has after putting together a stellar offseason where he established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in this state. A gunslinger with sound mechanics, Lowe is poised for a big year but the only question headed into the season is will he have enough talent around him to help the Wildcats offense and their quarterback put up points and victories. Lowe is talented enough to make the guys around him better and allow their talents to play up. If all goes according to plan, Lowe will be at the top of list for Mr. Football by season’s end.
4. (Ath) Jeremiah Flemmons Jeremiah Flemmons 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR East Hamilton | 2022 State TN (6’4 195) – East Hamilton
– The Canes are having to replace a lot of key players off last year’s playoff team, so they will be leaning heavily on Flemmons to produce numbers, points and victories this year. He is up for the task and has been waiting his turn to be the guy under the spotlight. Flemmons is a big and athletic guy that will run the quarterback position but translates to the next level at a variety of positions. His versatility and athleticism will play up this year for the Canes and give the opposition a tough prospect to corral. Flemmons is ready to go after that Mr Football and make a name for himself during his last run with East Hamilton.
5. (RB/DB) Shawn Gary Shawn Gary 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB South Doyle | 2022 State TN (5’10 190) – South Doyle
– Here comes the sleeper on this list as many may not know about Gary right now but all should by the end of this year. The Cherokees senior two-way talent is targeted to be the go to guy at running back and safety for his team this season and after a strong summer offseason, Gary is ready for a breakout year. This dude can run and get up and down the field in a hurry. His explosive, play making abilities is what puts him on this list as he will be given the ball a lot and he can find the end zone quickly. Barring injuries, Gary could maneuver himself into Mr. Football contention but also enhance his college recruitment as he sits currently with no offers.
