Last season, the Hurricanes finished with an 8-3 record, with an offense putting up 47 points per game and a defense who held teams to about 30 points per game. With a few key players leaving, the Hurricanes still have an abundance of athletes who are capable of leading the team to a successful season.
Key Players Returning:
QB Carson Roper Carson Roper 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Klein Cain | 2022 State TX – 6’2″ 185 (2022)
Roper returns as the Hurricanes leading passer and signal calling. After a strong season last year, throwing for 1,802 yards and 13 touchdowns, and running for 637 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns as well, Roper looks to continue leading the offense to success with his arm and legs. He is an accurate passer who has a very good zip on his throws, and can punish a defense with his deep ball. Roper shows very good athleticism when he decides to keep the ball and can hurt teams if they don’t respect his legs.
WR Matthew Golden Matthew Golden 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Klein Cain | 2022 State TX – 6’1″ 190 (2022)
TCU commit Golden led the Hurricanes in receiving yards and was Roper’s favorite target. A true playmaker on the field, Golden can stretch a secondary and is a defensive backs nightmare. He shows tremendous acceleration and drive out of his stance and has incredible hands. Golden finished last season with 1,027 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns on 43 receptions. Golden will draw many eyes with his play this upcoming season.
LB Ramir McCray Ramir McCray 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB Klein Oak | 2022 State TX – 5’11″ 210 (2022)
McCray is a high motored backer who is versatile on the edge. He can be a pass rusher or drop back into coverage, whatever is needed, he will do. Last season, McCray had 70 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 3 sacks for the Hurricanes. He is an athlete with great burst and plays a physical game. McCray is most definitely a player to watch for the Hurricanes and will be a key leader for the defense.
LB Connor Been – 6’2″ 220 (2022)
Been is the signal caller for the defense at the mike linebacker position. He returns as the leading tackler from last season and as an important core piece to the Hurricanes. Been finished last season with 105 tackles, 11 TFLs, 5 sacks, and an interception. Been shows great anticipation on film and is incredible on his fits in-between gaps. He shows no false steps and is decisive. Been will be another important leader and will play a major role in the Hurricanes success with his experience.
DL Lukia Rawls – 6’0″ 260 (2022)
Rawls was named the unanimous Defensive MVP of the district last season and will be looking for more this upcoming year. Rawls is a phenomenal talent on the line and can dictate a game with his play. He has violent hands, physically sheds blocks, and shows very good speed and quickness. Rawls ended last season with 78 tackles, 19 TFLs, and led the team with 7 sacks. Rawls play will get much attention and he will be a major contributor to the teams success once again.
