South Lake Has The Talent To Compete

Talk to South Lake High head football coach <strong>LaQuentin Taylor</strong> about last year’s 4-4 record, and he will point to the experience that his team received. Even in a pandemic season his Eagles managed to make the best of a tough situation – while building for the future. Wins against Anclote, Eustis, Leesburg and Mount Dora gave this program plenty of confidence heading into the off season. Spring and summer gave several prospects an opportunity to step up and make an impact – especially the seniors, who are going to be looked upon for leadership and valuable experience. Among those seniors will be <strong>David “Trey” Alston</strong> (Athlete, 5-9, 175 – 3.68 GPA), <strong>Joey Bustos</strong> (DL, 6-1, 240 – 830 SAT), <strong>Terry Falcone</strong> (LB, 5-10, 198 – 2.8 GPA, 920 SAT), <strong>Kenwaun Harris</strong> (WR/Athlete, 6-2, 185), <strong>Smensky Innocent</strong> (DE/OLB, 6-0, 185) and defensive back <strong>Kohen James</strong> (6-2, 170 – 3.17 GPA, 940 SAT). The Eagles will also look to <strong>Francisco Martinez</strong> (OL, 6-3, 265 – 2.75 GPA, 960 SAT), <strong>Daniel Negron</strong> (LB, 5-10, 170 – 2.5 GPA), <strong>Quinton Nelson</strong> (RB, 6-1, 195) and <strong>Justin Soto</strong> (LB/FB, 5-10, 195 – 2.5 GPA). <strong>CLASS OF 2023 IS READY TO MAKE AN IMPACT’</strong> While the sophomores (2024) and incoming 2025 freshmen are still trying to find their place in this program, the Class of 2023 juniors are truly what this team will continue to build with.
