Grayson at Marietta.
The Rams won the 2020 7A state championship last year and the Marietta Blue Devils won the title back in 2019. These are two winning programs who are looking to stay at the top of 7A in Georgia.
Here are a few players to know going into the scrimmage…
Griffin Scroggs Griffin Scroggs 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Buford | 2022 State GA – OL – Grayson
One of the top interior lineman in all of Georgia, Scroggs is a big, nasty center/guard with good size and strength. A Max Preps 2nd Team All-State selection, the Georgia Bulldog commitment is coming off a big junior season where he helped anchor an outstanding Grayson offensive line to a state championship. One of the best centers in the state, Scroggs is extremely physical and will have a chance to open up a lot of holes for junior running back Joe Taylor. The Gwinnett County standout plays hard to the whistle and doesn’t need help from another lineman to take on big, powerful defensive tackles in the middle of the trenches. Look for him to push for All-State honors this fall as a senior.
Daniel Martin Daniel Martin 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Marietta | 2022 State GA – ATH – Marietta
He may be one of the top linebacker prospects in the state, but that didn’t stop the four-star athlete from being the Blue Devil’s go-to receiver on offense last year. The 6-foot-2 190-pounder is one of the best athletes in the region and it’s led to offers from Clemson, Florida, Auburn, Vanderbilt, among others. Martin’s 51 catches for 896 yards and 8 TDs made him one of the best playmaking receivers in the entire county last year, making him a reliable option for talented 2022 QB Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA . The Blue Devils will be pass-happy once again in 2021, and the Hughes to Martin connection is only going to get better as they enter their senior seasons. Look for Martin to once again be one of the region’s leading receivers and one of the best in North Georgia this fall. He also has a chance to be one of the region’s leading tacklers this fall as well.
Joe Taylor – RB -Grayson
One of the top running backs in the region, Taylor is coming off a strong sophomore season in a back-up role where he rushed for 600 yards and five touchdowns. He may not be a speed demon, but Taylor is a tough runner who knows how to break tackles and keep the chains moving. He’s thick in the lower body and looks the part physically at 5-foot-10 205-pounds. He was the MVP of the 7A state championship game last year and will lead the Grayson running back room this fall. He has an opportunity to have a monster junior year as he’ll be running behind one of the biggest and most talented offensive lines in the state.
Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA – Marietta
It’s tough to fill the shoes of former Blue Devil state champion Harrison Bailey at quarterback, but Hughes made the transition a little easier after an impressive junior season. This past fall, Hughes passed for 2,703 yards and 28 TDs in Marietta’s pass-happy offense. The 6-foot-1 205-pounder also made plays with his legs, rushing for 535 yards and 8 touchdowns. He’s fundamentally sound and works incredibly hard in the offseason to perfect his craft. He continues to get better each day and has the arm and overall skillset to lead the Blue Devils to a big season in 2021.
JoJo Stone – ATH – Grayson
One of the best players on the entire roster, Stone is an elite athlete who has the chance to play all over for the Grayson Rams this year as a sophomore. The 5-foot-11 180-pounder will likely play defensive back at the next level, but he’ll play DB, WR, RB, and even some QB this year. Even as a rising sophomore, Stone is going to have a BIG impact for the Rams this fall. He has five-star potential and could be one of the highest-ranked athletes in the country for the 2024 class. He’s going to touch the ball often this year and will be a big name across the state very early in the season. He already owns offers from Georgia, FSU, Boston College, among others.
