Bethany kicked off their season with impressive victory over 2A #2 Jones Longhorns. Although time of possession was almost equal, you wouldn’t have known it by the way the game played out. Bethany was in complete control all night and really dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. “We just want our guys to buy in and do their job” Head Coach Jon Arthur told me before the game. That’s exactly what they did all night. Bethany had a few mistakes that allowed for a big play or two on the defense, but their experience from so many young players being forced into roles last season clearly paid off Friday night. Here were a few of the top performers for the Bronchos.

does it all for the Bronchos would be an understatement. Against the Longhorns Heim who’s listed at 6’5” 180lbs threw for a touchdown, caught one, and rushed one in as well. When he wasn’t scoring for Bethany he was making an impact on the defensive side of the ball. “Whatever coach needs me to do to help us win, that’s what I’ll come out and do” said Heim. Expect to see the versatile JR continue to make an impact for Bethany in every aspect of the game the rest of the season.
Cale Wetwiska- 2023 QB/S/ATH
Much like Heim, another versatile JR playmaker for the Bronchos is Cale Wetwiska. Cale split reps at QB with Heim, but contributed to the outcome much the same, like the 44 yard touchdown pass he tossed to Heim down the sideline for a score early in the 2nd quarter. Wetwiska contributed in the passing and rushing game completing 5-9 passes for 75 yards and a score that Heim was on the receiving end of. Wetwiska will be the other half of the dynamic “do-it-all” duo of the two JR QBs.
Jaden & Jack Gilliland- 2023 RB/LB
Versatile JR duos seem to be a theme for this Bethany team, but this one takes it a step further. Twin brothers that play the same position for the Bronchos and provide very similar benefits with their physical play, athleticism, and leadership. While Jaden carried more of the load Friday night offensively with 17 carries for 133 yards, I expect them to pick up the slack for each other at different points throughout the season. The brothers were physically bruising all night on both sides of the ball whether it was carrying the ball, blocking, or tackling. I definitely foresee them setting the tone physically for Bethany all season long.

is one of the best shutdown DBs in the state. He had several members of the Longhorn receiving corps frustrated all night. Malaska was a big reason for multiple goal line stops by the Broncho defense in their opening night game. Malaska boast impressive speed with next level range and athleticism. Some of which he even showed off on the offensive side of the ball as well by hauling in a 6 yard touchdown pass late in the 3rd quarter. Early in the game Malaska had an impressive physical stop on the edge that helped set the tone for the Bethany defense the rest of the game. The attitude and ability that
