With a very explosive backfield and a shutdown defense with some physical veterans and some new faces, they should see themselves in the section championship game in a few months once again. Here are some of the top players to note going into the season.
RB Jonah Coleman Jonah Coleman 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Lincoln - Stockton | 2022 State CA , 2022
One of the top backs on the West Coast, he is one of the most balanced players I have seen in recent years and extremely physical out of the backfield while having soft hands and terrific body control downfield, which is rare for a back his size. Committed to Arizona, he should continue to see Power Five offers come his way as he continues his dominance as the best and most physical back in the section.
LB Tim Thomas Tim Thomas 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB Lincoln | 2022 State CA , 2022
Thomas is another very under-recruited prospect that has sure fire FBS caliber skills at the Mike linebacker position. Having ideal size, speed and physicality for the position, he holds multiple offers from the likes of SJSU, Colorado State, Fresno State and Idaho state among others. A natural athlete with good hips and closing speed, he is a strong tackler that explodes through contact and plays with an extremely high motor. Seemingly comfortable coverage, he diagnosis plays quickly and takes on blocks with a good use of hands and can rush the passer off the edge when needed. He is one of the top linebackers available across the state and should collect more FBS offers in the coming months.
CB, Jomarion Briggs Jomarion Briggs 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Lincoln | 2022 State CA , 2022
Briggs has great length for the position and offers terrific upside at the next level and is a natural athlete in the backend. Currently committed to Fresno state, he holds offers from the likes of Arizona, Colorado, UCLA, New Mexico among others, and it will be very interesting to see where he ends up when it is all said and done. A very exciting player to watch that constantly makes big plays and tough tackles, he is one of the best at the position within the golden state.
QB Kenyon Nelson Kenyon Nelson 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Lincoln - Stockton | 2023 State CA , 2023
One of the most explosive offensive players in the state that not many people know about, it won’t be long until Nelson explodes even more onto the scene. He is hands down one of the best athletes in California with a huge arm and elite top end speed/short area quickness in tight windows. He throws a very nice deep ball while accurate on intermediate throws and does a good job at surveying the defense before he takes off. Holding one offer from Tennessee and a true dual threat quarterback, it won’t be long until he is a multi-offer prospect.
CB Ezriel Vasquez, 2022
Vasquez is one of the best corners in Northern California that no one knows about. Currently not holding any offers, that should soon change. On tape, he has terrific range and length while flashing great ball skills and is a true technician at the position while breaking quickly to ball carriers and able to flip his hips and backpedal without taking false steps in transition. Very versatile and not afraid to come up and make big time tackles in traffic and the open field, he is without a doubt a FBS caliber player and will continue to show that this Fall.
DL Tyher Howard, 2022
A recent transfer from Oakland’s Skyline High school, Howard will be a dominant force on the defensive line for the Trojans this Fall. He plays with great leverage and hand usage at the point of attack while also a high motor player that is a plug against the run and can go speed to power quickly in pass rush situations. Able to play both inside and outside, he will be one of the best defenders in the San Joaquin Section this Fall.
