Continue ReadingThe Harrison Goblins had an extremely impressive 2020 season. The Goblins finished the 2020 campaign with an 11-2 record on the season. Harrison is looking for another playoff run ending with an appearance at War Memorial Stadium in November. Coach Joel Wells has a talented group this season as well, and we are going to take a look at some of the key players for the Goblins. We will also name a couple of games for fans to circle on the calendar.
Harrison has two steady options at the quarterback position. Logan Plumlee Logan Plumlee 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Harrison | 2022 State AR and Beck Jones will each be vying for snaps leading up to the season. Plumlee has a good arm and saw some action last season throwing for 165 yards in the process. Jones is the type of quarterback that can do the damage with his legs. Jones is a tough runner, and he gives opposing defenses something to worry about in terms of a rushing threat at the quarterback position.
In the rushing department, the Goblins are going to lean on Brody Gilliam this season. Gilliam is a tough running back that is difficult to bring down. Phoenix Whitney will be coming off a knee injury this season and will likely earn some carries this season. Keep an eye on Cy Madden this season who earned seven yards per carry on the ground and is a bruising running back.
The Harrison receiving corps has some talented players that will look to earn some snaps this season. Dylan Block Dylan Block 5'9" | 170 lbs | DB Harrison | 2022 State AR is a wide receiver that runs consistent routes and does a good job of creating separation. Block caught 28 passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns. Kaden Quant will see passes thrown his way this season. Quant has a knack for helping the quarterback by getting open and creating separation.
On the offensive line, Harrison has several talented players returning this season. Skyler Graves returns at the guard spot and he does an excellent job using his quickness to the keep the opposing offensive line off-balance. Taylor Baker Taylor Baker 6'2" | 310 lbs | OL Harrison | 2023 State AR will take over at one of the tackle spots and he has the size and strength to be a problem for opposing defensive linemen. John Schaffer John Schaffer 6'2" | 280 lbs | OL Harrison | 2023 State AR saw some time at the center position, and he is extremely quick out of the stance and getting into the opposing lineman.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball folks are going to want to keep an eye on Evan Dixon at the noseguard spot. Dixon mixes an impressive speed with strong hands. At the linebacker spot Tristan Thompson was always around the football. Thompson reads the play well and does not miss on tackles. The defensive side of the ball has the potential to cause plenty of problems for opposing offenses.
2021 Prediction:
Harrison is always in playoff contention and this team should not be any different. The Goblins have the potential to win the 5A-West again this season. However, fans are going to want to circle the Farmington and Morrilton games on the calendar. A deep playoff run is not out of the question and staying healthy will be key for the Goblins.
