One team that I expect to surprise people this season is the Clarksville Panthers. Coach Khris Buckner’s Panthers were a bit hit and miss last season, however they built momentum late and earned a playoff victory over Greene County Tech in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers have potential to surprise some teams in 2021. On the offensive side of the ball, the Panthers have experience returning at several key positions. Bryce Buckner has recovered from an ACL tear and returns at the quarterback position. Buckner is a tough runner that makes good decisions with the football. Buckner throws an accurate football, and he can keep a defense off-balance with his passing. The ground game is a strong facet of the offensive game for the Panthers. [player_tooltip player_id="184076" first="Arthur" last="Alvarez"] was nothing short of terrific for the Panthers last season. The Panthers running back rushed for 1,222 and 12 touchdowns last season. Alvarez is a dangerous in the passing game as well for the Panthers. Rhett Fultz will have the opportunity to see some carries this season for the Panthers. Jacob Buckner shows excellent burst, and he will earn some carries this season. Buckner has excellent speed and can be a nightmare to bring down. When the Panthers pass the ball. Clarksville will rely on tight end Ty Frost to haul in some passes. [player_tooltip player_id="184076" first="Arthur" last="Alvarez"] is difficult to account for in the passing game coming out of the backfield. Juan Delarosa is a receiver that runs good routes and is an unselfish player. Delarosa helps creates lanes for his teammates in the passing and rushing game. The Panthers offensive line is an impressive unit. [player_tooltip player_id="112596" first="Matt" last="Colvin"] is an absolute beast at the tackle position. Last season, Colvin had 83 pancake blocks and he has the potential to amass even more this season. Colvin is a player that will start to catch division one attention this season. Newcomer Ian Hennessy is a player that should contribute on the offensive line this season. Hennessy shows good power and quickness for the Panthers. On the defensive side of the ball, the Panthers have several players that are going to make an impact this season. Ty Frost is a nightmare for the opposing offensive line to block at the defensive end position. Frost racked up 21 tackles last season and lived in the opponent’s backfield. Bryce Buckner at the linebacker position is all over the field for the Panthers. Buckner amassed 50 tackles last season and has the skill to rack up more this season. The defense has the potential to be a strong unit this season. <strong>2021 Prediction:</strong> Should the offense be able to control the clock and get the ground game going this could be a dangerous team to contend with. Look for Clarksville to surprise some folks this season and earn a playoff spot with the potential to having a run. Two games to circle on the calendar this season are the Vilonia game and the Alma game. Clarksville has an opportunity to pick up some momentum with a victory in one or both games.
