Continue ReadingComing off a 12-1 district championship season, and a 1-point double OT loss to Red Oak in the 3rd round of the playoffs, former Coronado head coach Seth Parr accepted a new job at Anna High School. CHS found their new head coach in a former alum, DJ Mann. Mann was the Quarterbacks Coach and Passing Game Coordinator at perennial powerhouse Cedar Hill before taking over at Coronado. With Gatorade Texas High School Player of the Year Sawyer Robertson Sawyer Robertson 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Coronado | 2021 TX graduated and moving on the Mississippi State, Coach Mann has a bit of a reloading job to do, but still returns plenty of talent with 4 offensive starters and 6 defensive starters coming back. Coach Mann and the Coronado Mustangs expect to repeat as District 2-5A champions and make noise in the playoffs.
Top Returners
TE Trevor Stephens Trevor Stephens 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Coronado | 2022 State TX – 6’3 225lbs – Class of 2022
Stephens is one of the top 2022 TE prospects in Texas. He is a strong blocker and has a good catch radius. Trevor is dangerous up the seam and on the deep over route. He racked up 60 catches for 751yds and 8 TDs last year, but those stats should explode this year with him being the top returning target in the offense.
WR Will Boyles – 6’5 180lbs – Class of 2022
Boyles was the 4th leading receiver on the team in 2020, behind 2 seniors and Trevor Stephens Trevor Stephens 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Coronado | 2022 State TX . He had 43 catches for 571yds and 5 TDs, but he has the ability to double those numbers easily this season. He has great hands and is solid on contested catches. Boyles is also an active blocker.
RB Antonio Malone – 5’8 185lbs – Class of 2022
Malone is lightning in a bottle. He has good feet, is a great route runner, and has soft hands as a receiver. He is explosive and electric as a ball carrier, using his shiftiness and determined running style to expose defenses. Antonio had 764 rushing yards, 282 receiving yards, and 12 TDs last year.
CB Kaleb Pillow – 6’1 180lbs – Class of 2022
Pillow returns for his senior season after finishing tied for second on the team in interceptions with 3 and passes defended with 6. He uses his short-area quickness and great awareness to explode on the receiver as they make a break.
FS Ted Gilmore – 5’9 175lbs – Class of 2023
Gilmore is one of my favorite players to watch on this team. He was tied with Kaleb Pillow for 2nd on the team in interceptions with 3 and had 4 passes defended 1 forced fumble, and 64 tackles. Ted plays fearlessly, shooting in like a heat-seeking missile and sacrificing his body to finish tackles against bigger ball carriers. He has great ball skills, phenomenal closing speed, and elite range. One of his best highlights shows off his range, with him traveling from the hash to the numbers on the far side of the field to nab the interception in the red zone.

Tascosa has a ton of talent, led by guys like Avion Carter Avion Carter 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Tascosa | 2023 State TX and Major Everhart. This game could be the de facto district championship.
