This was an amazing game it went down to the wire. Bellaire came out on top with a score of 23-20. Both team played great, but I do believe Elkins had better players overall. Unfortunately, Elkins just made one too many mistakes that cost them the game. However, I will be covering Elkins offensive strengths in this article.
#8 Greg Green WR, DB Jr 5’8 165 lbs
From when the game started I was confused when I saw how Greg Green was playing. Greg is a wide receiver, but when I got the ball it almost looked like a handoff. Therefore, I thought he was a running back instead of a wide receiver. Besides, that Greg is incredibly fast and elusive I could see that from the very 1st play when he ran the ball for 11 yards.
#26 Daron Smith MLB, FB, HB Sr 5’11 230 lbs
Daron Smith had a great start to his senior year of football. Daron has a really nice size and figure, but looking at him I didn’t think he would be as fast as he was. It was a pleasant surprise to me and difficult for Bellaire’s defense to deal with. Daron averaged most of the 165 rush yards for Elkins and scored both of the touchdowns made on offense.
#10 Jackson Fields WR Sr 6’7 195 lbs
In the sport of football height is very important, but just being tall doesn’t mean you’ll be good at football. However, with Jackson Fields being 6’7 that amount of height isn’t very common among high school athletes especially wide receivers. In the beginning of the game I noticed Jackson’s overwhelming height and long reach it was easy for him to catch high passes that no one else on the field could catch. Jackson Field is way more than just is height he’s fast and quick as well a natural athlete. Jackson Field hasn’t committed to any college, but he has offers from Texas Southern University, University of Wyoming, UTSA, Army Football, Air Force, and many more. Jackson Fields is expected to have a great senior year.
#28 Matthew McGill RB, LB Jr 5’7 170 lbs
Elkins had a good batch of running backs on their roster. Matthew McGill was definitely one of them. Matthew and Daron were the backbone and main force of Elkins offense. Matthew was fast and knew how to hit the holes. Matthew also doubled up by playing as a linebacker on defense. From seeing him you couldn’t tell Matthew played both ways because he never took a play off and gave 100% every play. Whether it was running, tackling or blocking he played the whole game Matthew had great endurance.
#1 Isaiah Smith QB Jr 5’11 185 lbs
Isaiah Smith was a very impressive and dynamic quarterback. Isaiah was the cornerstone for his offense as he should be. Isaiah had a lot of weapons to utilize on offense, but he wasn’t afraid to run the ball himself. Whenever no one was open Isaiah knew how to get out of danger and get the necessary yards for his team. Isaiah ran the ball for 21 yards when he saw a path open and no one to throw it to.
