Once again, the high school season will get kicked off in the annual Corky Kell Classic, a series of games between some of the state’s top programs. The first two games are set to kickoff on Wednesday and two more are scheduled for Thursday.
Archer vs. Westlake and then Dacula vs. Tucker.
Here are a few prospects to know in the Archer/Westlake game…
Archer vs Westlake:
Caleb Wooden Caleb Wooden 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Archer | 2022 State GA – DB – Archer
The three-star defensive back from Gwinnett County is one of the more versatile defenders in the area. As a junior last season, Wooden lined up against some of the top teams in the state and had to cover an impressive receiver every week throughout the season. Wooden held his own through a brutal Archer schedule and will now take his talent to the SEC. The 6-foot-2 185-pounder has great size and will bring some physicality to the position group on the Plains. Look for the Auburn commitment to push for All-Region honors as a senior.
Avieon Terrell Avieon Terrell 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Westlake | 2023 State GA – DB – Westlake
The 5-foot-10 195-pounder is another fundamentally-sound cornerback who is constantly working to perfect his craft. He is the younger brother of current Atlanta Falcon cornerback AJ Terrell, so Avieon knows what it takes to play at the next level and possibly on Sundays. He’s a playmaker who is technically sound and already holds offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida, among others. He’s put on some decent weight in the off-season and has performed well across multiple 7-on-7 tournaments this spring and summer. The Westlake Lions will have one of the best defenses in Atlanta this year, and Terrell will by a big reason why.
Cayden Lee Cayden Lee 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR Hillgrove | 2023 State GA – WR – Westlake
There’s been a lot of hype around Lee for a while now, and even though he’s dealt with some injuries so far in his career, it’s easy to see the overall talent, dedication, and effort that he brings to game. He’s an incredibly twitchy receiver with great feet and the ability to create separation. He works hard on his craft, he’s dedicated to perfecting the details of his game, and he’s only getting better. He has good size 6-foot-0 180-pounds, but his reliable hands and ability to get by defenders and make plays down the field make him one of the state’s best in the 2023 class. As a sophomore last season at Hillgrove (GA), Lee caught 34 passes for 525 yards and 9 TDs. Lee already holds offers from Georgia, Auburn, FSU, and Kentucky, with more likely coming his way down the road.
DJ Moore DJ Moore 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Archer | 2022 GA – WR – Archer
One of the more underrated WRs in the state, Moore has excellent speed and has a knack for getting behind the defense. He has decent size at 6-foot-1 185-pounds with the ability to make the “spectacular catch”. He has tremendous ball skills and is dangerous with the ball in his hands. He can create separation, but his best quality to make big plays down the field. Earlier this month and the Atlanta Under Armour camp, Moore ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, a 4.26 in the short shuttle, and had a 33-inch vertical. He’s one of the more explosive players in the state and is expected to have a monster senior season, even against some of the state’s top defenses.
