In this article, I take a look at some major sleepers in Iowa High School Footballs 5A. All of these recruits are uncommitted and are looking to play college football in the future. Let’s dive in!
Cameron Figgs Cameron Figgs 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Rock Island | 2023 State IA – Defensive Back (Bettendorf) Frame: 6´0 165 lbs – Class of 2023 Hudl
Cameron is going to be one of the household defensive backs in the 2023 class. He had some big plays against an excellent team in Pleasant Valley that pretty much ran through every team in the eastern side of Iowa except Bettendorf. Cameron is fundamentally sound at such a young age and can already line up at safety and cornerback. He is also physical and has multiple big hits on his film, proving he is not scared to make contact. Cameron will have shut down ability this upcoming year, and I would not be surprised if he earns the number one receiver every game. Teams already seemed scared to throw at Cameron Figgs Cameron Figgs 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Rock Island | 2023 State IA .
Cameron Figgs Cameron Figgs 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Rock Island | 2023 State IA 2020 Season Stats: 13.5 Tackles, 12 Solo Tackles, 2.0 Tackles For Loss.
Peyton Goode – Quarterback/Wide Receiver (Ankeny Centennial) Frame: 6´0 195 lbs – Class of 2022 Hudl
Peyton has been in a QB battle his entire high school career, but from what I’ve heard so far, he has won the QB battle at Ankeny Centennial against 2024 star prospect Trenton Smith Trenton Smith 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Ankeny Centennial | 2024 State IA , who transferred from Ames earlier this summer. Last year Peyton was put at wide receiver and led Ankeny Centennial in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. His footwork and route running were effortless, and he looked like he was a receiver from day one. But now he finally gets the opportunity to start at QB for the Jaguars. Peyton is mobile and has a good enough arm to complete some difficult passes. His fundamentals are impressive, showing excellent footwork that will seamlessly translate at the college level. Peyton just received an offer from Missouri Western on August 11th, and I assume his list will expand this upcoming fall.
Peyton Goode 2020 Receiving Stats: 20 Receptions, 351 Receiving Yards, 3 Receiving Touchdowns, 17.6 YPC.
Peyton Goode 2020 Passing Stats: 5/14 C/ATT, 85 Passing Yards, 0 Passing Touchdowns, 0 Interceptions, 17.0 YPC.
McKade Jelinek McKade Jelinek 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Linn Mar | 2022 IA – Quarterback (Linn-Mar) Frame: 6´1 205 lbs – Class of 2022 Hudl
McKade is a true dual threat QB who can unleash 40+ yard throws accurately or tuck it and run. His pocket awareness impressed me when I watched his film. He would effortlessly evade defensive linemen and extend plays. He makes many good throws, dropping it right in the basket when the receiver is running a fade route. He also has natural footwork that keeps the defense guessing about what he’ll do next. McKade also has a strong ability to throw on the run, something many Iowa QBs find difficult. Linn Mar has not lived up to the hype in recent years, but this year could be the year they make a run in the playoffs.
McKade Jelinek McKade Jelinek 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Linn Mar | 2022 IA 2020 Passing Stats: 58/107 C/ATT, 481 Passing Yards, 6 Passing Touchdowns, 4 Interceptions, 8.3 YPC.
McKade Jelinek McKade Jelinek 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Linn Mar | 2022 IA 2020 Rushing Stats: 40 Carries, 71 Rushing Yards, 2 Rushing Touchdowns.
