The powerful Grayson Rams.
The reigning 7 state championship have multiple titles in recent memory, and while they lost a lot from last year’s senior class, they’ll still be a talented team looking to repeat as state champions this fall. This team is loaded with D1 talent on both sides of the ball and have quite a few underclassmen who will be household names by the end of the season.
Here a few Grayson Rams to know about going into the 2021 season…
Griffin Scroggs Griffin Scroggs 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Buford | 2022 State GA – OL
One of the top interior lineman in all of Georgia, Scroggs is a big, nasty center/guard with good size and strength. A Max Preps 2nd Team All-State selection, the Georgia Bulldog commitment is coming off a big junior season where he helped anchor an outstanding Grayson offensive line to a state championship. One of the best centers in the state, Scroggs is extremely physical and opened up a lot of holes between the tackles for four-star running back Phil Mafah Phil Mafah 6'1" | 213 lbs | RB Grayson | 2021 State GA . He was a pancake machine last year and is expected to be even better season as a senior. The Gwinnett County standout plays hard to the whistle and doesn’t need help from another lineman to take on big, powerful defensive tackles in the middle of the trenches.
Michael Daugherty Michael Daugherty 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grayson | 2023 State GA – DB
There aren’t many guys who can say they started for the mighty Grayson Rams as an underclassman, but Daugherty is one of those guys. The state-champion defensive back started for the Rams as a sophomore last season, proving he can more than hold his own against any receiver in the state at such a young age. He has tremendous technique, quick feet, ball skills, and size at 6-foot-1 180-pounds. He’s long and knows how to stay with bigger receivers on the outside. He checks all the boxes as a true cover corner and now holds offers from Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, among others. Daugherty made 46 tackles and intercepted one pass last season. Look for Daugherty to lead the Rams secondary this year in hopes of repeating as 7A champs.
Joe Taylor – RB
One of the top running backs in the region, Taylor is coming off a strong sophomore season in a back-up role where he rushed for 600 yards and five touchdowns. He may not be a speed demon, but Taylor is a tough runner who knows how to break tackles and keep the chains moving. He’s thick in the lower body and looks the part physically at 5-foot-10 205-pounds. He was the MVP of the 7A state championship game last year and will lead the Grayson running back room this fall. He has an opportunity to have a monster junior year as he’ll be running behind one of the biggest and most talented offensive lines in the state.
JoJo Stone – ATH
One of the best players on the entire roster, Jone is an elite athlete who has the chance to play all over for the Grayson Rams this year as a sophomore. The 5-foot-11 180-pounder will likely play defensive back at the next level, but he’ll play DB, WR, RB, and even some QB this year. Even as a rising sophomore, Stone is going to have a BIG impact for the Rams this fall. He has five-star potential and could be one of the highest-ranked athletes in the country for the 2024 class. He’s going to touch the ball often this year and will be a big name across the state very early in the season. He already owns offers from Georgia, FSU, Boston College, among others.
