Continue ReadingWestlake comes off another successful season and winning the 6A state championship over Southlake Carroll. Now, head coach Todd Dodge will look to continue that success with still an elite roster including senior quarterback Cade Klubnik Cade Klubnik 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Austin Westlake | 2022 State TX , who just recently committed to Clemson, and is one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks in the state. Last season, Westlake went undefeated with the closest victory coming against North Shore in the semifinals of the playoffs, 24-21. Many of the key returners stem on the offensive side of the ball, including two offensive linemen, seniors Connor Robertson and Bray Lynch Bray Lynch 6'5" | 275 lbs | OL Westlake | 2022 State TX , who will help continue to keep the line strong. Another household name, junior wide receiver Jaden Greathouse Jaden Greathouse 6'2" | 210 lbs | WR Austin Westlake | 2023 State TX , will also be returning this season and will look to continue to dominate opposing defenses and continue to build up his name. Another wide receiver is junior Keaton Kubecka Keaton Kubecka 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Westlake | 2023 State TX , who will be interesting to watch as he too gains experience through both age and game experience since last season. Although much of the elite defense graduated after last season, it is safe to say that Dodge will have the same efficiency on the defensive side of the ball as he did last year. It is easy to say that Westlake will likely dominate again this upcoming season.
KEY RETURNERS
Connor Robertson (SR-OL)
Bray Lynch Bray Lynch 6'5" | 275 lbs | OL Westlake | 2022 State TX (SR-OL)
Keaton Kubecka Keaton Kubecka 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Westlake | 2023 State TX (JR-WR)
Kubecka showed a lot of promise last season as he had the highest amount of yards amongst every sophomore besides Greathouse. Kubecka finished the season with nine receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown, and with most of the receivers graduating last season, it is safe to say that Kubecka will likely get more reps this season and get a chance to shine on the things he has been working on during the offseason.
Cade Klubnik Cade Klubnik 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Austin Westlake | 2022 State TX (SR-QB)
Klubnik almost needs no introduction at this point. He is arguably the most elite quarterback in Texas, and possibly the country. He is both accurate in whatever pass he is throwing, smart in his decision-making and can be mobile if the play calls for it. Klubnik has already got his future laid out and now he will be proving to Clemson that he deserves the QB1 spot when he arrives. It should be fun to watch as he looks to help get Westlake another state championship.
Jaden Greathouse Jaden Greathouse 6'2" | 210 lbs | WR Austin Westlake | 2023 State TX (JR-WR)
Greathouse cemented himself as the first go-to for Klubnik last season as a sophomore. He ended the season with 1,145 yards, 69 receptions and 13 touchdowns. Greathouse has both size, speed and athleticism to continue to make him an elite receiver. He has also already started receiving offers from across the country and is ranked amongst the best in Texas. The duo of Klubnik and Greathouse could become quite legendary this season.
