We close out our week at DeLaSalle, where we got the opportunity to watch the Islanders practice at one of the coolest facilities in my opinion on turf in Minneapolis at Parade Stadium. What I grasped about this Islanders team in that practice session is they have a solid amount of prospects on their roster that carry a heavyweight going into their senior and junior seasons. With that being said, they also have a lot of prospects we did not have the film available to watch so there is an under-the-radar feeling with this Islanders program as we reach into the 2021 season. Can they get over the hump of two wins in the last two seasons? Find all about their prospects here in the 2021 free preview of the DeLaSalle Islanders who are looking to get some key wins on and off Nicollet Island this season.
The Prospect List
Brandon Hoban Brandon Hoban 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Delasalle | 2022 State MN | QB | 2022
Hoban is likely the top prospect out of DeLaSalle’s senior class and man there is a lot of to like about this young man’s tape. He shows solid touch on his throws and is excellent at evading extreme pressure. Even when he’s evading pressure, you can just tell Brandon has such a calming demeanor back there. There is also a lot of great things to say about his pocket presence as he’s a prospect that throws the ball at a high level whether he’s in or outside the pocket. That poise in his game was enough to get some attention from our National Scouting Director during showcase season this winter. I certainly think more coaches need to head to Nicollet Island this fall and get a look at this kid as his game is fun to watch.
Gulius Jones Gulius Jones 5'9" | 170 lbs | DB Delasalle | 2023 State MN | RB/DB | 2023
Gulius really showed a strong skillset during Friday afternoon’s practice that set the bar in my eyes that he will be a prospect that can play at the next level. He showed a solid hip drive and was super physical in the Oklahoma drill as a linebacker that has a high contact ability just how you want your DBs to make contact. When he lined up at running back, he showed a strong cutting ability and strong downhill speed. His tape shows a prospect defensively that his size has a more sizeable catch radius than you would think with his size (5’9 170). Jones is a hard noses runner and runs at a high level thru contact. I see him as a next-level defensive back and I certainly think he’s a scholarship-level prospect for the Islanders 2023 Class. If I had to hand out an MVP at practice on Friday, it would go to Gulius.
The prospect that drew the biggest spark on the defensive line of the Islanders was Romelle Bell. This young man showed off a lot of athleticism and I was shocked to find out this was his first year playing football for the Islanders which shows what a gifted athlete he is. Bell showed a strong stance while getting lined up and was a havoc wrecker when he got his body into the Islanders backfield showing strong physicality. Well put together frame at 6’3 215 pounds This young man has just got started on Hudl so he doesn’t have any tape yet, but this is a prospect to watch for the Islanders as he already is one prospect with a lot of upside coming in the near future.
Gerald Jones Gerald Jones 6'1" | 220 lbs | DL DeLaSalle | 2023 State MN | OL/DL | 2023
The twin brother of Gulius, Gerald was one of two Jones brothers that cracked my top performer’s list Friday afternoon. He showed sparks of a solid shedding ability and had a good bend at the waist on the line. The biggest development I saw out of Gerald was two things, one being his explosiveness and the other being his stamina. Jones shows levels of explosiveness in some plays I watched and had other plays where I would have loved to see more even in the 90-degree heat at Parade Park. With that explosiveness will come stamina and I am excited to see it grow in his junior and senior seasons.
Amir Everett | ATH | 2022
Everett was another high-level athlete that was a top performer from Friday’s practice. I don’t think in the early drills there was a more dominant athlete that had more physicality locked in than Amir Everett. On tape, Everett shows a big motor that has the willpower as a team-first prospect to chase a player down the sidelines. When lined up in the receiving core, Everett’s athletics goes to work as he makes some excellent plays in high-traffic areas. You will even see him line up at TE from time to time as he shows off the snap a strong burst. This is another prospect out of the Class of 2022 that is getting really slept in my eyes as I am surprised with his athletics and being a 2-time captain for the Islanders that he doesn’t have an offer yet. He’ll prove even more of his worth this season, I have no doubt about that.
