East St. John hosted Isidore Newman, Archbishop Shaw and Booker T. Washington from around the city in one of the final sessions of the summer.
And, even with a few top prospects missing, each program featured at least a couple standout performances.
Here are a few of the best, including one from each program.
Cortez Fisher Cortez Fisher 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB East St. John | 2023 State LA — 5-10, 170 RB — East St. John (2023)
The speedy weapon’s sophomore film is among the most impressive of any running backs around Louisiana, and coach Brandon Brown praised Fisher’s continued progress and growing confidence stepping into an upperclassman role with big men such as Jackie Marshall Jackie Marshall 6'3" | 230 lbs | LB East St. John | 2021 State LA and Welland Williams Welland Williams 6'1" | 250 lbs | DL East St. John | 2021 State LA now off to college. Even in the 7-on-7 setting, the Wildcats wasted little time showcasing that mentality as multiple quarterbacks looked Fisher’s way deep downfield early and often out of the slot. Colleges have started to recognize the shifty track standout’s football potential, and much more attention is likely on the way.
Natrell James — 6-0, 170 ATH — Booker T. Washington (2022)
Another standout running back, rising BTW junior Arnold Barnes Arnold Barnes 5'10" | 210 lbs | RB Booker T Washington (New Orleans) | 2023 State LA , was among a few notable absences from one of the final 7-on-7 sessions of the long summer. The quickly rising prospect figures to be a focal point for the Lions this fall. But several of his teammates showed coach Wayne Reese Jr. and the staff will have plenty of other weapons to utilize through the air. James is a two-way standout for Booker T. Washington with track speed and decent size and experience to be among the team’s leaders this year and position himself for an opportunity at the next level.
Jayce LaCava — 6-0, 195 ATH — Archbishop Shaw (2023)
The play of the entire day may have belonged to Jayce LaCava, the Eagles’ two-way and two-sport athlete. The physical and versatile linebacker, receiver or tight end is already a baseball prospect and could take the reins at quarterback next season when Stephen Banford Jr. Stephen Banford Jr. 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Archbishop Shaw | 2022 State LA Jr. heads to college. But he drew loud reactions from both sidelines with a leaping “Moss’ed” touchdown reception from Banford in the morning’s final contest against Newman.
Will Randle Will Randle 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Newman | 2023 State LA — 6-4, 220 TE — Isidore Newman (2023)
With star wideouts A.J. Randle is a two-way standout for the Greenies and one of the nation’s top tight end prospects in his, Manning’s and Donaldson’s 2023 class. Randle moves well for his size and may have garnered two dozen looks from his friend on the day with his ability to get open with his feet or to position himself well to haul in contested catches with his almost-always sure hands.
