We are continuing our Statewide Watch List series, highlighting prospects from around the state, regardless of classification. We’ve got our eye on two hidden gems in the Upstate and Lowcountry who are starting to receive some interest.
Defensive End/Tackle
Jerrell Robinson, Greer (2022)
Analysis – Robinson is a downhill, run stopping defensive end and tackle. He can get into the backfield quickly. He wins the battle at the LOS, causing trouble for an athletic quarterback trying to make a play on a keeper. He fights off double teams well and has good gap integrity. He is an excellent student with a 3.58 GPA and received an offer from Ramah Academy, a junior college football program in Rock Hill, S.C. on June 23.
Carnell Jones Carnell Jones 6'3" | 280 lbs | DL Summerville | 2022 State SC , Summerville (2022)
Analysis – The first thing that immediately stood out about Jones is his ability to be disciplined in his rush lanes and make plays in space. Even if he can’t get to the quarterback, he uses his hands to affect the throw. The young man can move for his size at 6’3, 278 pounds. He took an interception to the house on one play that we saw on his film. He garnered First Team All Lowcountry defensive end honors for his play during the 2020 season.
Quarterback
Tyler Haley Tyler Haley 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Beaufort | 2022 State SC , Beaufort (2022)
Analysis – Haley may have one of the strongest arms we’ve seen in our film evaluations. He’s a lefty who can take the top off the defense. We were really impressed with his ability to make throws on the run with accuracy. He leads his receivers well on the long ball. But if you get too caught up in his ability to throw, he can also run it as well and can get to a solid top speed. He garnered 4A All-State honors for his play during 2020 season and he currently has two offers from Newberry College and Benedict College in South Carolina.
