In 2020, the Cobras reached the playoffs but were bounced in the first round by Pottsville. Coach Kenny Shelton has experience returning on both sides of the ball and the Cobras have the potential to accomplish a playoff run this season. We are going to look at some impact players for the Cobras and give a prediction on the 2021 season.
Looking first at the offensive side of the ball. The Cobras are extremely effective running the football. However, the quarterback is who makes it all go and work correctly. Fountain Lake will depend on Wesley Campbell Wesley Campbell 5'9" | 175 lbs | QB Fountain Lake | 2023 State AR to make the proper reads and to use his arm to keep the defense from crowding the box. Campbell is not afraid to use his legs to pick up yards and has displayed a strong and accurate arm.
The Cobras will lean on a strong ground game to wear down opposing defenses. Running back Caleb Lacy Caleb Lacy 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Fountain Lake | 2022 State AR has shown that he can light up opposing defenses with how he runs the football. Lacy has excellent speed and he has put it on display several times. In 2020, Lacy rushed for 668 yards and 12 touchdowns before having his season cut short due to injury. Fans can expect to see Lacy get a big chunk of the carries this season.
One of the most versatile players on the team will see some snaps at the wide receiver position this season. Steven DeArmon Steven DeArmon 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Fountain Lake | 2022 State AR has shown that he can be a threat to the defense at a variety of positions. DeArmon rushed for 643 yards and eight touchdowns and averaged an impressive 12 yards per reception. Fountain Lake is looking to put the ball in the air more often this season, so fans can expect to see Evan East see some passes thrown his way this season.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Demarius Grant Demarius Grant 6'1" | 290 lbs | DL Fountain Lake | 2022 State AR will be looking to build off of his 2020 season. Grant racked up 40 tackles and showed that he can work all along the defensive line. Grant has the potential to disrupt opposing offensive backfields this season and make the scouts take notice. At the linebacker spot, Gavin Nguyen displayed a high motor and tackling ability. Nguyen racked up 43 tackles and will have a strong season this season for the Cobras.
2021 Prediction:
Fountain Lake is going to rely on a strong rushing attack to control the clock and put up the points for the Cobras. On the defensive side of the ball, Fountain Lake will need to play disciplined defense and avoid injuries. Experience is there this season for the Cobras, it will just come down to building some momentum. Games against Bauxite, Malvern, and Ashdown are going to prove important for the Cobras and could help decided playoff seeding.
