Baptist Prep made a playoff appearance last season, and the Eagles are looking to make a deeper playoff run this season. We are going to take a look at both sides of the ball for the Eagles and give a preview of how the season will turn out.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Baptist Prep Eagles have some options at the quarterback position. Jackson Mullen saw action at the wide receiver position as well as the signal caller spot. Mullen was the starting quarterback against the Two Rivers Gators last season, and he will have the opportunity to work at the spot this season. Tyler Hesley has the opportunity to earn some snaps at the quarterback position this season. Hesley worked primarily as a wide receiver in 2020 but has put in work over the offseason at the quarterback position.
The running back position is a talented one for the Eagles. Isaac Devine Isaac Devine 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Baptist Prep | 2022 State AR is a running back that does not mind running between the tackles. Devine punched the ball in the end zone three times last season. He rushed for 218 yards and has his sights set on a more impressive season in 2021. Baptist Prep fans can expect Ecya Madison to see some carries this season as well. The backfield is talented and has the potential to do big things for the Eagles this season.
Baptist Prep has weapons at wide receiver going into the 2021 season. Blake Brown Blake Brown 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB Nettleton | 2023 State AR does a little bit of everything for the Eagles. Brown rushed for 210 yards and a touchdown, while hauling in 26 receptions for 342 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Owen Throneberry does a great job of hauling in the passes that extends drives. Throneberry does a good job working his way open for his quarterback.
Shifting focus to the defensive side of the football. Throneberry is going to be counted upon on the defensive side of the ball. Throneberry is always around the football and has no problem delivering a hit. Meanwhile, Devine is extremely impressive in the secondary. Devine racked up 40 tackles and picked off four passes last season. The potential is there for Baptist Prep to be solid on both sides of the ball.
2021 Projection:
Baptist Prep has the potential to be a sleeper team in 4-3A Conference. With an experienced quarterback returning and a good running and passing game the Eagles are going to be tough to beat. The Perryville and Atkins games could be big in regards to a playoff berth for the Eagles this season.
