The nation’s top ranked team, Mater Dei (Santa Ana), has struggled to find in state opponents to play them in recent years. On August 27, the Monarchs will make their first ever trip to Texas to play Duncanville. Mater Dei is ranked No. 1 in the county on MaxPreps preseason rankings, Duncanville is ranked No. 15. Duncanville and Mater Dei have some elite players returning for the big matchup. Let’s take a look at some of the top players from each team. [player_tooltip player_id="60693" first="Omari" last="Abor"] is a defensive lineman who is committed to Oklahoma. He is one of the best edge rushers in the nation who has a college-ready body and is arguably the best defensive player in the state for his class. Gabe Brooks of 247Sports compared Abor to Bradley Chubb of the Denver Broncos. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="60715" first="Jordan" last="Crook"] withdrew his commitment from Oklahoma State on Wednesday. He had 93 tackles, six sacks and three interceptions last season including two pick sixes. He has a strong build at 225 pounds and is extremely athletic. Recruiting experts now expect him to commit to Arkansas. Interior offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="60755" first="Jaylen" last="Early"] is a load at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds. He was All-District as a sophomore for Duncanville and had a nice junior season as well. He recently visited Florida State which is the favorite to land him. [player_tooltip player_id="60710" first="Cameron" last="Williams"] is another Duncanville offensive lineman who is a Power 5 caliber star. He verbally committed to Oregon on Thursday. He is 360 pounds and cited the Oregon coaching staff and the peaceful campus as his reasons for heading to Eugene. Williams and Early are what gives Duncanville arguably the best offensive line in the state. https://twitter.com/drksportsnews/status/1410735535677575171?s=20 [player_tooltip player_id="149651" first="Ka’Davion" last="Dotson"] is the best underclassman for Duncanville. He is a safety and is as good of a run defender as he is in pass coverage. He is already 180 pounds as a soon-to-be sophomore and is ahead of the game compared to a lot of class of 2024 defensive backs. He already has a handful of Power 5 offers including Arkansas, Oklahoma State and USC. [player_tooltip player_id="25223" first="Domani" last="Jackson"] is the best player for Mater Dei. He is the top player in California’s 2022 class and just ran a 10.25 100 meter dash. He has a college-ready body, and plays a lot taller than he is. He has plus strength and can win 50/50 balls against any receiver in the country. He is verbally committed to USC. https://twitter.com/Scott_Schrader/status/1408991462688104448?s=20 Mater Dei’s running back [player_tooltip player_id="25225" first="Raleek" last="Brown"] is headed to Oklahoma and will be teammates with Duncanville’s Abor. He is speedy and can make big plays in the passing game out of the backfield. He is on the smaller side but isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and create contact. When he gets into the open field he has breakaway speed. [player_tooltip player_id="25234" first="David" last="Bailey"] is the best pass rusher in California causes chaos in the backfield. He only played two games this spring for Mater Dei and was outstanding in both while clearly playing injured. He has sideline-to-sideline speed and is a guy that opposing offensive coordinators game plan around. He has offers from 12 schools including UCLA and USC. https://twitter.com/lfernando86/status/1379799119821070339?s=20 Mater Dei’s best defensive lineman to counter Duncanville’s offensive line is [player_tooltip player_id="141893" first="Jacob" last="Kongaika"]. He absorbs double teams and has the athleticism to beat a lot of down blockers and get into the backfield. He is strong for his 270 pound frame. He has three offers and is expected to land at UCLA. Class of 2023 lineman [player_tooltip player_id="25453" first="BJ" last="Tolo"] is Mater Dei’s best offensive lineman. He was All-County as a freshman in 2019 and is the most well-rounded offensive lineman in the Trinity League. He gets to the second level with ease and can lay big hits. He is an outstanding pass blocker and is already so experienced for an underclassman. He has offers from Colorado State, Kansas and Oregon. Mater Dei’s [player_tooltip player_id="25224" first="CJ" last="Williams"] is the best uncommitted player in this game. He has an insane 49 offers including all the major schools. He is one of the best route runners I have seen at the high school level and gets off the ball well. Greg Biggins of 247Sports believes Williams will be a multi year Power 5 starter and has NFL potential. He recently visited Notre Dame and is expected to commit there this month. https://twitter.com/latsondheimer/status/1383612824820142087?s=20
