Today, we continue the under-the-radar series with the first of two articles, evaluating the outstanding wide receivers that fall into this category for the Class of 2022. These great student-athletes are more than just pass catchers. They are pure playmakers, capable of elevating the offense around them. These prospects are ready to make their presence felt this upcoming season. The stock should soon be rising for these elite wide receivers. [player_tooltip player_id="139773" first="Trey" last="Firestone"], 6’3, 200 pounds, Zionsville [player_tooltip player_id="139773" first="Trey" last="Firestone"] checks all the boxes that a college coach may have for a wide receiver. Firestone is a big, strong receiver who is excellent in the air. He frequently comes up with contested catches. Firestone is a very good route-runner, who knows exactly what he needs to do get open. Firestone runs all of his routes well. Regardless of whether it is an underneath, intermediate or deep route, Firestone puts an immense amount of pressure on the defense. Firestone is tremendous after the catch. Upon making the catch, he looks to pick up additional yardage and turn a good play into a great play. [player_tooltip player_id="119039" first="Ryan" last="Glenn"], 6’1, 165 pounds, Guerin Catholic [player_tooltip player_id="119039" first="Ryan" last="Glenn"] is an extremely dependable receiver that can make big catches in key situations in the game. Glenn has a great catch radius. A quarterback simply needs to put the ball in his vicinity, and he is likely to come down with it. Glenn does well to bring in difficult throws and turn them into positive plays. Glenn has very strong hands. He routinely makes contested catches and he can win a 50-50 ball. [player_tooltip player_id="119039" first="Ryan" last="Glenn"] does a good job putting himself in favorable positions for the quarterback. Glenn uses his body to not just get open, but to put the defender in a very difficult spot. [player_tooltip player_id="98101" first="Rory" last="Gage Heltsley"], 6’4, 190 pounds, Gibson Southern [player_tooltip player_id="98101" first="Rory" last="Gage Heltsley"] is an exciting receiver, who can hurt the defense in many different ways. Heltsley can do well when lined up outside as well as in the slot. He has good speed and he gets off the ball well. The footwork that Heltsley possesses is outstanding. Heltsley’s footwork can make it so difficult for a defensive back to guess which direction he is going to go. He comes out of his break very nicely. Heltsley puts his foot in the ground and puts the defender in a very tough position. These receivers are on the rise. Each of these great players has a very high ceiling, and the potential to help take a program to the next level. Tomorrow, we will continue the Class of 2022 under-the-radar series with a look at the offensive linemen. The depth of offensive talent amongst this senior class in Indiana is incredible. For these outstanding prospects, the best is yet to come.
