Today, we role right along with our evaluation of the sleeper stars in the state with the running backs. This group is incredibly talented and will take a few days to fully break down. The three running backs that we will see today are pure playmakers, capabale of fully igniting the offense. All five have the ability to leave a tremendous impact on the college game.
Travon Hegler Travon Hegler 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN , 5’10, 190 pounds, Lawrence North
Travon Hegler Travon Hegler 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN can be a defense’s worst nightmare, because the way that he picks up yardage will keep them on the field. Hegler is a direct, north-south type of runner. He wastes no time at all getting through the hole. Hegler has great vision allowing him to see the hole open up. I love the way that he attacks the line of scrimmage. He knows where the point-of-attack is and he gets there. Also impressive about Travon Hegler Travon Hegler 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN is how he finishes the play. Once he gets through the line of scrimmage he is capable of eluding defenders. Hegler is also very difficult to bring down, as tackling him often requires more than one defender. Travon Hegler Travon Hegler 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Lawrence North | 2022 State IN can pick up chunk yardage any time that he gets the football.
Joey Heuer Joey Heuer 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Lowell | 2022 State IN , 5’8, 180 pounds, Lowell
Joey Heuer Joey Heuer 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Lowell | 2022 State IN is an exceptional multipurpose player. Heuer is tremendous as a running back as well as a kickoff returner. He is the perfect combination of speed and elusiveness. Defenses cannot allow Heuer to get into the open field, because, once he does there is no catching him. He can outrun defenders or just make them miss. Heuer runs with great balance, allowing him to keep running after contact. Heuer also has a physical side to his game. It is difficult for just one defensive player to tackle him. Heuer is the kind of running back that can provide a badly needed energy boast for the entire roster.
Blake Heyerly Blake Heyerly 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Adams Central | 2022 State IN , 6’1, 200 pounds, Adams Central
Blake Heyerly Blake Heyerly 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Adams Central | 2022 State IN possesses a very unique level of versatility, as he is a star on both sides of the ball. Heylerly is a standout prospect at both running back and linebacker. Last season, Heyerly averaged over five yards per carry. I believe that he can be a physical running back for any college team. Heyerly is somebody that can do well in short yardage and goal-to-go situations. Blake Heyerly Blake Heyerly 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Adams Central | 2022 State IN is the type of physically-tough player that I would always want to have in the offensive backfield.
All three of these players have what it takes to be great running backs at the collegiate level. These three each possess their own unique attributes, but all can handle the physicality that the exists in the college game. Indiana has great depth at running back in the Class of 2022. Tomorrow, we will take a look at four more outsanding prospects. Colleges that want to take their running game to the next level need to get these three elite running backs on their radar.
