The Roswell Hornets are always contenders in 7A and played for the 7A state championship just a few years ago. Their biggest rival, the Milton Eagles, are currently one of the premier programs in the state and will push for another state title run this fall. You also have the upstart Cherokee Warriors who are coming off one of their best seasons in school history.
Here are a few wide receivers to know in the region for the upcoming season…
Matteo Carriere Matteo Carriere 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Alpharetta | 2022 State GA – Alpharetta
Maybe the biggest “sleeper” playmaker in the region, Carriere is a playmaking receiver with game-changing speed. He was the No.1 receiver for the Raiders last season and clocked a 10.70 speed recently in the 100-meter. Not only can he get behind defenders down the field, but he’s proved to be fantastic with the ball in the air. He’s great with the 50/50 balls and was as reliable as it gets on 3rd down. When a play needed to be made, Carriere found a way to make a play. He can create serperation with ease and make a defender miss if he has any space at all. He’s also big and quick enough to beat press coverage and get past the secondary. His “6th gear” is something a lot of kids don’t have, and Prep Redzone is expecting a 1,000+ yard year out of him this fall. He’ll be a name to keep an eye all all season.
Adarrius Harshaw Adarrius Harshaw 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR Cherokee | 2022 State GA – Cherokee
Like we mentioned earlier, it was a fantastic season for Cherokee in 2020, and a lot of it had to do with their offense. They ran the ball consistently, but their passing attack turned into one of the best in the area thanks to QB AJ Swann and WR Adarrius Harshaw Adarrius Harshaw 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR Cherokee | 2022 State GA . The 5-foot-10 155-pounder from Canton was the go-to playmaker for Swann through the air last year, catching 53 passes for 872 yards and 7 touchdowns. Harshaw was a 1st Team All Region 4-7A, runs a 4.39 40-yard dash, a 10.78 in the 100m, and is 3rd in the nation with a 24.3 in the long jump. Expect Swann to keep looking Harshaw’s way for most of the 2021 season. He might be on the smaller side, but he’s a big-time playmaker with game-changing speed and elusiveness. He currently holds offers from Maryland, Georgia State, Eastern Michigan, among others.
Debron Gatling Debron Gatling 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Milton | 2024 State GA – Milton
One of the top young receivers in all of North Georgia, Gatling is coming off an excellent spring game for the high-powered Milton Eagles where he scored three touchdowns. He played more and more as the 2020 season went on last year and found a way to make a big impact for a freshman. Senior QB Devin Farrell Devin Farrell 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Milton | 2022 State GA will be looking for another playmaker on offense this year, and Gatling, even as a sophomore, could turn into one of the team’s biggest offensive weapons. He has great size for his age at 6-foot-2 180-pounds and already knows how to run a crisp route and create separation. The playmaking wide-out already holds offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, FSU, among others. Look for Gatling to possibly push for 5-star status down the road in his class. More offers are expected to come his way as well over the next few months and into his sophomore season.
