Five teams did a terrific job of putting in some work and hammering out problems that they may face as the offseason heats up. We are going to briefly report on the impressive working being done by all five teams. Gentry, Siloam Springs, Farmington, Rogers, and Rogers Heritage all got better today.
Watching practices today, Prep RedZone Arkansas had an excellent opportunity to view how much improvement has taken place over the offseason. Every team out there today flashed explosive play capability. Which all five teams will need to compete in conference play throughout the year. However, I came away more impressed with the defensive side of the ball today. At this point it is always normal for the defense to be a bit more cohesive than the offense.
On the offensive side of the ball, the offensive lines are starting to come together well. The Farmington offensive line in particular was impressive today. Mason Dooly Mason Dooly 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Farmington | 2022 State AR and Hunter Marshall Hunter Marshall 5'8" | 245 lbs | OL Farmington | 2024 State AR are each impressive on the offensive line unit. Marshall flashes terrific foot speed and a hard-working attitude to improve and get better with every practice. Dooly plays with a mean streak and is a competitor. Both have the potential to have extremely impressive seasons.
The Siloam Springs Panthers have a passing game that is impressive as well as an offensive line to give quarterback Hunter Talley Hunter Talley 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Siloam Springs | 2022 State AR plenty of time to scan the field. Talley has a strong arm and he put it on display today. Offensive lineman Jace Sutulovich Jace Sutulovich 6'3" | 280 lbs | OL Siloam Springs | 2022 State AR has stayed in game shape since the season ended. The young man is effective from a run and pass blocking perspective. The Panthers are going to have an explosive offense and today we only caught a glimpse of that.
Rogers Heritage has one of the most dangerous two-way players in the state of Arkansas in the form of Eli Craig Eli Craig 5'10" | 195 lbs | WR Rogers Heritage | 2022 State AR . Craig broke a long rush for a touchdown in this morning’s practice session. Craig looked to be in mid-season form, and he was showing terrific burst. The War Eagles have the potential to surprise some folks this season. Rogers Heritage were moving around well and were playing with excitement which speaks well for the upcoming season.
As for the Rogers Mounties, the Mounties are team that are flying a bit under the radar. Rogers has talent on both sides of the ball. At the tight end position, Joel Garner Joel Garner 6'5" | 190 lbs | TE Rogers | 2022 State AR is a match up nightmare when it comes to covering him in the passing game. Garner is a tough blocker that plays with a mean streak. The young man has the potential to have a big 2021 season. Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball, keep an eye on Brady Porter Brady Porter 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Rogers | 2022 State AR and Marion Slater Marion Slater 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Rogers | 2022 State AR , both have the potential to play on Saturdays in the future.
Coach Justin Bigham of the Gentry Pioneers has a determined group that are extremely hard working. Logan Heath Logan Heath 6'2" | 295 lbs | OL Gentry | 2023 State AR on the offensive line plays with a chip on his shoulder and a mean streak. He can use his strong hands to drive the opponent into the ground. Meanwhile, at the tight end position, Garrison Jackson Garrison Jackson 6'5" | 235 lbs | TE Gentry | 2022 State AR is a tight end that has the potential to develop into one of the state’s best. Jackson is a difficult player to cover in the red zone, but he creates mismatches all over the field. Gentry has a team that has the potential to make some noise this season.
Every team got better today and being able to take advantage of the team camp system is great for high school football in the state of Arkansas. I love seeing the cooperation between the schools. The summer is just getting started but the season is getting closer!
