In this article:
With the former top ranked player in the rankings transferring out of state, the top spot became up for grabs for the rest of the field. This Top 5 update features a new top ranked player that climbed his way to the No. 1 spot, and a player that will be making his debut inside the Top 5. Here are the latest Top 5 players in the Class of 2022.
No. 1: Jaren Kanak Jaren Kanak 6'2" | 210 lbs | ATH Hays | 2022 State KS – Hays, 6’2”, 210, ATH
The offseason Kanak’s had has leaped him from No. 5 in the rankings to the top player in this class. Kanak was drawing some Power 5 interest after his 2020 season, but while competing in track this past spring, every major Division I program in the country came calling. His 10.37 time in the 100 Meter Dash caught everyone’s attention. That type of speed is rare, especially while weighing 210 pounds. This freak athlete will be looking to dominate during his senior year.
No. 2: Mekhi Miller Mekhi Miller 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley North, 6’1”, 180, WR
The top wide out in the Class of ’22 has maintained his status as the 2nd ranked player in this class. Miller also impressed during this recent track season, as he helped the Mustangs’ 4×1 team earn a trip to state. He continues to be committed to Missouri, but he has picked up a few more Division I offers throughout the spring. Expect another impressive season from Miller and the Mustangs this fall.
No. 3: Caden Crawford Caden Crawford 6'4" | 235 lbs | LB Lansing | 2022 State KS – Lansing, 6’5”, 240, LB
Crawford has been killing it in the weight room and at multiple camps during this offseason. His numbers in the weight room continue to climb, as he’s hit 325 pounds on the clean and he repped 465 pounds on back squat. While competing at camps he displayed solid coverage skills as well. The Iowa commit will be a key piece to the Lions’ defense this year, as he could see time at both outside linebacker and defensive end.
No. 4: Landon Dean Landon Dean 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Frontenac | 2022 State KS – Frontenac, 6’5”, 245, DL
The 2nd ranked defensive prospect kept his No. 4 spot with this update. The Oklahoma State commit recently took his first official visit to his future home in Stillwater. As Dean continues to develop as a pass rusher, he could potentially see playing time during first year on campus. He will definitely be an exciting player to watch coming off the edge during his senior campaign.
No. 5: Nick Herzog Nick Herzog 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Blue Valley | 2022 State KS – Blue Valley, 6’4”, 270, OL
Herzog makes his debut in the Top 5 after previously being the 6th ranked player in this recruiting class. The talented lineman moved up in the rankings after announcing his commitment to Northwestern University earlier this month. He can play every position on the offensive line, and it will be interesting to see how the Wildcats use him at the next level. Herzog could even possibly line up against Crawford, which would be a fun matchup to see.
