1. Brody Bujnoch Brody Bujnoch 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Hutto | 2023 State TX – Hutto High School (Hutto, TX)
2020-21 Season: 60 total tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 4 interceptions
It is sometimes rare to see linebackers being such ballhawks but Bujnoch is one of those linebackers. He has an eagle’s eye for where the quarterback is going to throw the ball and is a nuisance for any offense because of that. More so, Bujnoch is powerful, fast, and has a strong shoulder, especially working goal-line plays at quarterback where he just rams into the endzone. Bujnoch will be an interesting player to watch to see if he continues being a ballhawk next season.
2. Taurean York Taurean York 5'10" | 210 lbs | LB Temple | 2023 State TX – Temple High School (Temple, TX)
2020-21 Season: 94 total tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble
York received District 12-6A Defensive MVP honors last season and was named District 12-6A Newcomer of the Year, the year before. York has agility and speed on his side, able to catch the quarterback before he can even get set in the pocket or before the running back can even begin to get into his stride. York is electric off the snap, resulting often in the two previous plays mentioned. He is a fantastic defender to have for both of those outcomes and for stopping screen plays before they get a chance to develop.
3. Wakil Mateen Wakil Mateen 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Brennan | 2023 State TX – Brennan High School (Brennan, TX)
Mateen displays his pursuit skills and his determination to make the tackle in his tape. He is also quick off the snap and is deadly if he has the snap count down. On top of this, he displays power by matching up with tight ends and offensive linemen and no matter how far the ball carrier is, Mateen will go make the play. He is one of the most determined linebackers in the Class of 2023 and is laser-focused on every play.
4. Makai Williams Makai Williams 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Steele | 2023 State TX – Steele High School (Cibolo, TX)
2020-21 Season: 96 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, 10 tackles for a loss
Power. That is the word to describe Williams. He has incredible power and he is not afraid to lay on a massive hit against any poor running back or wide receiver. However, he also is aware of the situation and will make a leg tackle, for instance, when the opposing offense is about to score instead of going for the hard hit, which could allow the back to bounce off or juke. Williams displays not only his intelligence of the sport but his athleticism, his Hudl page is definitely worth a look.
