It’s home to two programs who fought for a state championship last year (Oconee County and Jefferson) and one program who brought home the state title (Prince Avenue Christian). The area has produced two high quality QBs in recent years ( Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA and Max Johnson) and is home to a current five-star in the 2022 class in athlete Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA .
The area is still loaded with talent and many continue to add major offers as we head deeper into the summer. Here are a few area standouts who have earned big offers recently…
Sammy Brown Sammy Brown 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2024 State GA – Jefferson
One of the area’s top overall athletes, for former Commerce star is coming off one of the best freshman seasons in the state and is now going to play his ball at Jefferson. As a freshman last year, the 6-foot-2 205-pounder rushed for 1,368 yards and scored 19 total touchdowns. On defense, Browns was a standout linebacker who made 41 tackles and two sacks. The dual-sport star was also excellent during track and field season, showing he’s one of the most impressive 2024 athletes in the entire state. His future might be at linebacker at the college level, but Brown is expected to help out the Dragons on offense as well as a sophomore this fall. He already owns some major offers, and he added another SEC offer this week from Ole Miss.

Jordan Perry – Jefferson
Like Brown, Perry is another impressive Jefferson Dragon and still one of the more underrated players in the region. While five-star ATH Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA was the team’s leading playmaker on offense, Perry also made a big impact and was a big reason why the Dragons made it to the state championship game last year. The 6-foot-2 180-pounder has a number of slammer offers, and he earned another respectable this week from Arkansas State. Last year as a junior, Perry rushed for 434 yards (8.5 ypc) and five touchdowns. He also caught 8 passes for 208 yards (26 yards per catch) and four more touchdowns. On defense, Perry made 37 tackles, one sack, and intercepted four passes. He was a true do-it-all athlete and easily has D1 talent.

Whit Weeks – Oconee County
There aren’t many true “playmaking” linebackers out there, but this Athens-area linebacker is one of them. The Oconee County Warriors had a monster season last fall and made it all the way to the state championship game. A big reason was due to the play of Weeks. As a sophomore last year, Weeks made plays on both sides of the ball, but really stood out on defense. The 6-foot-2 190-pounder made 78 tackles last year, 9 TFLs, one sack, and three INTs. He earned a big offer this week from South Carolina.
