As parents, fans, coaches and athletes made their way to Coral Gables this past Saturday night, the long-awaited month of June started to come to an end – as the 14 plus months of the “NCAA Dark Period” was over, and for 26 days, colleges hosted thousands of high school football prospects.
Making up for two consecutive springs without any college exposure at all, the high school talent made the most of every opportunity – with some programs going out on the road for as many as two weeks, visiting college campuses of all sizes.
With the University of Miami once again hosting Paradise Camp, attracting athletes from all over the country was certainly something that the Hurricanes have been able to do, especially when UM icons like Michael Irvin, Lamar Thomas, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Edgerrin James, Calais Campbell, David Njoku, Dolphins’ rookie Jaelen Phillips and Gregory Rousseau were on campus.
From Nevada, Minnesota, Texas and all over the state of Florida, hundreds flocked to the “U” as this event has now become a national showcase – with so much focus on the campus.
Prospects who the Hurricanes hope to land as part of the 2022 class as well as those impressive 2023 prospects were on hand – and while the rain cut into some of the evening’s festivities, it didn’t dampen any of the performances.
FIVE ATHLETES WHO TURNED HEADS
With so much talent spread around the football complex, watching every player perform in every drill was not possible, but there were five who caught the eye of just about everyone who attended.
2023 – Kaven Call Kaven Call 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Apopka | 2023 State FL , DE, Apopka. Over the past year, we have watched this impressive talent perform, and watching him during the camp season only showed everyone that this is a gifted talent, who is quick, strong, athletic and will often win those 1-on-1 battles. When you can impress as a 10th grader and continue to improve, colleges will watch you – and Manny Diaz and the Hurricanes will certainly check this young man out often.

The newest member of head coach Jevon Glenn’s Bucks’ football program, this Lithonia, Ga. transfer has already established himself as a lineman to watch, and the University of Miami, he grabbed the attention of coaches and the media on hand – quickly, dominating drills, showing his skill level, athleticism and overall technique. At 6-6, 280-pounds, he showed why he will be a heavily-watched offensive tackle, who will only add to the amazing talent this program already has.
