Continue ReadingSchools like Clarkston and Oak Park have sent lots of recruits to high profile colleges and it looks like there will be even more schools joining them in 2021. In a league of such tradition, it can be tough to get your name out into the recruiting ranks, but OAA players are consistently picking up offers from top colleges, which speaks to the culture surrounding the programs. All players included in this list are currently in Prep Network’s top 30 players for the class of 2022, which is quite an achievement for one league in a state as competitive as Michigan.
Here is a look at some of the top OAA players for the 2021 season:
Dillon Tatum Dillon Tatum 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH West Bloomfield | 2022 State MIAs one of the top players in Michigan, Tatum will have a lot to prove next season. In the recruiting ranks, Tatum is currently deciding between a four school list of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Baylor. He has 32 offers in total, with Michigan currently being the favorite in his top four. Tatum is a tough, instinctual, and intelligent player, which are things college coaches will look for from incoming freshman. On film, Tatum is a speedy halfback and safety who’s best suited with the football in his hands. His instincts and athleticism show in the open field as not many defenders can catch him.
Jaden Mangham Jaden Mangham 6'3" | 185 lbs | ATH Birmingham Groves | 2022 State MIAnother one of the top players in the state of Michigan is the Birmingham Groves athlete. Mangham is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands and he can come up and make a play at the safety position. His length and range are on display in his Junior season film, where he made tons of plays for his team. Currently, Mangham has 36 offers from FBS schools with Michigan State getting one crystal ball prediction already from 247Sports.
Michael Williams II Michael Williams II 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB West Bloomfield | 2022 State MIThe West Bloomfield High School star is set to do some major things in the 2021 season. Williams II shows some dynamic playmaking ability at the middle linebacker position. He can break down and make a tackle but also shows the ability to pursue ball carriers in the backfield. Athleticism isn’t a worry with Williams as he has the quickness and speed to keep up with running backs and tight ends in the passing game. Williams has 16 offers from FBS schools at the moment and will surely pick more up as the offseason continues.
Dayvon Young Dayvon Young 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Southfield | 2022 State MIWith offers from Kentucky and Ole Miss, Young is certainly trending in the right direction as a recruit. The wideout has seven offers in total and will expect to see that number grow exponentially by next season. Young has speed and a large catch radius that makes things easier for his quarterback. At 6’0, he has prototypical size for a wide receiver at the college level. Expect Young to make a quick transition to the next level as he has ideal route running and technique already at a young age.
Glenie Cross Glenie Cross 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Oak Park | 2022 State MICross is another one of the top players in the OAA. He has 14 offers currently including schools such as Cincinnati, Indiana, and Central Michigan, with his most recent offer coming from Princeton in March. On film, Cross has tons of range and can track down the ball carrier from a mile away. His speed and agility are all over his film for Oak Park and he could very well play cornerback for them as well. College recruiters will be happy to see how multi dimensional Cross’ game is at the next level.
Honorable mention: Mike DePillo Mike DePillo 6'5" | 200 lbs | QB Clarkston | 2022 State MI
