The Macon/Warner Robins area is loaded with some elite defenders once again, and that includes some fast-rising 2022 defensive backs. As good as the 2021 DB class is in the peach state, the 2022 class will give them a hard run for their money. It’s a deep group across the state, but there are many in Middle Georgia to keep an eye on who are starting to see their stock improve as we head into the summer.
Here are a few 2022 defensive backs to know in Middle Georgia moving forward…
Caleb Coley – Houston County
One of the biggest playmakers in Middle Georgia, it might not be too much longer for the Houston County playmaker to see his recruitment REALLY take off. The 6-foot-1 177-pounder is coming off an impressive junior season where he made plays on both sides of the ball, but really stood out as a member of the secondary. He holds a few respectable D1 offers right now from Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Northwestern, but he could see more coming way once he’s able to work out in front of college coaches. Coley is a true lock-down cornerback on defense but knows how to stretch the field on offense. As a defender, Coley made 30 tackles last year and recorded one sack. He also picked off two passes, forced one fumble, and blocked one kick. He’s an explosive player overall and will likely see more opportunities on offense as a senior this fall.
Just over six years ago, Macon County produced future All-American and first-round pick Roquan Smith. The small-town school in Montezuma is a tough program in Middle Georgia that breeds toughness and physicality. They have another high-quality defender on the team now in defensive back Jolan Hannor. He’s not the biggest defender at 6-foot-0 160-pounds, but he’s long, athletic, and showed tremendous ball skills last year as a junior. Hannor intercepted six passes on the season and made QBs regret throwing his way all season. He broke up five more passes and always found a way to find the football whether in the air or on the ground. Hannor recovered four fumbles as well, proving he was one of the top playmaking defenders in the entire state. Look for Hannor to start gaining some interest if he’s able to get out to some camps this summer and impress college coaches with his athleticism and pure ball skills.
Quavian Carter Quavian Carter 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Lee County | 2022 State GA – Lee County
As we know by now, not many programs in Middle or South Georgia produce the number of defenders that Lee County does. Year after year college programs across the country stop by Leesburg to check out the newest star defenders. They have four-star Jaron Willis Jaron Willis 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Lee County | 2022 State GA at linebacker, and he’s committed to play at Georgia Tech. Another impact defender is safety Quavian Carter Quavian Carter 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Lee County | 2022 State GA , and he’s coming off a big season for Lee County as well. The 6-foot-3 195-pounder brings a big, physical presence who can also cover a deep third, play in man coverage, and he’s extremely physical in the box. He shows tremendous ball skills as well and can turn around and play some receiver if needed. He’s versatile, athletic, and is a hard-worker as well. He brings toughness to the secondary and currently holds offers from Georgia Tech, Boston College, Cincinnati, Buffalo, among others.
