With the pandemic standing in the way of exposure for many athletes, who had dreams of one day playing at the collegiate level, the Martin County Tigers wanted to make sure that the senior class – 2021 – would at least go out with some positive memories – and they did.
Posting a 9-2 record, head coach Rod Smith and his program came to play every week, stayed as safe as possible and did what had to be done – in a year where many programs opted out of the state series.
With wins over Fort Pierce Central, Sebastian River, Jensen Beach, rival Stuart South Fork, Okeechobee, Port St. Lucie and Centennial in the playoffs, there was a lot to be happy about.
Losing only to 8A power Vero Beach and to Bradenton Manatee in the 7A state playoffs, the Tigers left 2020 with plenty of enthusiasm.
As they ended spring last Saturday with wins over Lake Worth Park Vista and Jupiter, the summer grind now begins – as this team will look to improve and work on those things that may have held them back in 2020.
