For the Mustangs and veteran head coach Bobby Ramsey, 2020 was one of those strike-it-from-the-record seasons where things did not fall into place.
While the 3-6 record stung, it may have served a purpose for the younger players who had to go through those tough setbacks.
As the losses to Bartram Trail (26-13), Jacksonville Lee (25-20), 3A state champion Jacksonville Trinity Christian (33-7), Oakleaf (35-12), Neptune Beach Fletcher (28-13) and Jacksonville Sandalwood (28-13) were learning moments, the Mustangs also used the wins as positives – to show the returning players in the off-season and this spring that this team has the talent.
That 2022 class (rising seniors) got something out of the victories over Jacksonville Atlantic Coast, Sandalwood and Ed White.
What this program has done – and will do moving forward is count on talented prospects Matt Adams (OL, 6-2, 275 – 3.8 GPA, 1210 SAT), Tony Carter (DB, 6-0, 185 – 3.0 GPA) and athlete Tre Jolly (5-11, 160 – 2.5 GPA) to lead the way. All three have attracted attention and will be a trio that helps add experience to the lineup.
In addition, look for prospects Ellis Davis (RB, 5-7, 160 – 3.8 GPA), Jalen Deadwyler (LB, 6-0, 235 – 3.0 GPA), Daron Dukes Daron Dukes LB Jacksonville Englewood | 2022 FL (DL, 6-3, 235 – 3.3 GPA), Jean-Luke Fouche (LB/DE, 6-0, 200 – 3.5 GPA), Terrence Johnson (RB, 6-0, 195), Joseph Lewis (DB, 6-0, 170 – 2.56 GPA) and defensive back Antwan Murphy (5-9, 165 – 3.1 GPA) to showcase their many skills.
Also, Andrew Ryan (TE, 6-2, 200 – 3.5 GPA), John Sauer (OL, 6-1, 280 – 3.5 GPA), Christian Sczcesniak (OL, 6-6, 310 – 4.0 GPA, 1320 SAT), Kylen Washington (DE, 6-3, 200 – 2.56 GPA), Christian White (OL, 6-0, 270 – 2.5 GPA) and defensive back Victor Winston (5-8, 165 – 3.0 GPA).
UNDERCLASSMEN ARE READY TO GO
As gifted as the Mustangs are in this rising senior class, keep your eye peeled to the rising juniors – as well – where standouts Jeremiah Shack Jeremiah Shack 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR Jacksonville Mandarin | 2023 State FL (WR, 6-3, 180 – 2.8 GPA), Carmello Murphy (LB/RB, 5-10, 200 – 2.8 GPA), Koron Hayward (WR – 2.5 GPA) and running back T.J. Lane (5-10, 205 – 3.3 GPA) are ultra-gifted.
Also, keep an eye out for Alexander Coleman (DE/OLB, 6-1, 200 – 3.5 GPA), Jhamari Harvell (QB, 6-0, 190 – 2.56 GPA), Ethan Strobel (LB, 6-0, 190 – 3.6 GPA) and defensive back Michael Wyche (6-0, 195 – 2.5 GPA). Class of 2024 talent Cameron Crawford (OL, 6-4, 280) will also be a force.
